As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, Canam is currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time Millwright / Industrial Mechanic at our steel joist and deck manufacturing plant in Calgary.

Job Description

As a member of our Maintenance Team:

  • You will be responsible for repair and maintenance of production equipment and facilities, including bridge cranes up to 25-ton capacity;
  • You will be involved in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to equipment calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance;
  • Additionally, you will perform all other Millwright/Industrial Mechanic duties as assigned.
Qualifications

This role requires an individual with the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of all assigned production equipment and processes;
  • A solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and machining functions;
  • A strong aptitude for diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues with processing equipment;
  • Formal training as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic/Millwright, with electrical knowledge; equivalent qualifications will be considered. Experience in machining is an asset;
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience, preferably in the manufacturing industry;
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis;
  • The ability to multitask efficiently while maintaining a high level of self-motivation;
  • A friendly, patient, and team-oriented work ethic, coupled with a strong commitment to organizational values;
  • The ability to work various shifts; prior experience with shift work and weekends is considered an asset;
  • Punctuality, maturity, and reliability, along with the ability to work well under pressure.

Physical Demands:

The ability to stand for extended periods is essential, along with frequent walking and occasional sitting. This position requires performing a wide range of physical activities, including pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying heavy objects (60–100 lbs.), as well as climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending, and handling various materials. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Our Environment:

Working safely is a condition of employment at Canam. Employees are subject to constant exposure to a steel fabrication environment, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, excessive noise levels, and vibrations. The role often involves working near moving mechanical parts and frequent exposure to fumes and airborne particles, as well as occasional work in high, precarious positions. Potential burn hazards include UV light radiation, open flames, sparks, and other sources. Due to elevated noise levels, appropriate hearing protection is required, and the correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times.

This position requires you to work rotating day/evening shifts.
