SUMMARY
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the warehouse and warehouse staff in the areas of order picking, shipping, load planning, receiving, warehouse optimization, and workplace safety.
EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
Warehouse Operations
Maintain an efficient and safe warehouse, while meeting customer service levels and achieving inventory integrity.
- Ensure order picking and shipping levels are sufficient and minimize inventory discrepancies to ensure customers receive complete orders, in perfect condition, with on-time deliveries.
- Work with the Operations Manager to review operating procedures to achieve and maintain customer service order levels.
- Responsible for maintenance, upkeep, and security of the warehouse. Recommend improvements as required.
- Ensure compliance with British Columbia health and safety regulations and Corporate safety guidelines.
- Plan and oversee product flow, inbound and outbound, to ensure company standards are achieved.
- Plan outgoing loads in a manner that is cost-effective and meets customer expectations for deliveries.
- Investigate and resolve external and internal customer issues and complaints promptly.
- Communicate and implement company policies and standard operating procedures as required.
- Work with purchasing staff to identify and correct inventory accuracy issues.
People Management
Supervise a team of approximately 10 to 15 warehouse employees.
- Create and maintain a positive work environment and a team atmosphere.
- Coordinate job training and safety training for applicable employees.
- Apply the required discipline to bring performance or behaviours to expected levels.
- Address employee issues in a fair and consistent manner.
- Assign work tasks to warehouse staff, and manage labour costs such as overtime.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum three years' experience supervising at least 10-15 warehouse employees, preferably in a unionized distribution center environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Effective coaching and team-building skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external parties in a professional and courteous manner
- Proven experience directing, training, motivating, and developing staff, including setting and monitoring performance
- Able to problem solve and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Multi-tasking and priority setting
- Use of knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service
- Good computer skills with demonstrated proficiency with Word, Excel, and ERP systems
EDUCATION
- High school graduation or GED
- Post-secondary education is desirable
EMPLOYMENT STATUS
- Permanent full-time
- Monday to Friday, 7:30 am – 4 pm
