Facility Operator II
Town of Tillsonburg is looking for a Facility Operator II who would perform building, grounds, ice, and pool maintenance, general housekeeping, and minor repairs to equipment primarily at the Community Centre.
This is a permanent full-time position with an excellent benefits package including immediate group benefits coverage, OMERS defined pension plan and free Employee Health Club Membership at the Tillsonburg Community Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Assists certified refrigeration mechanics with ice plant repairs and equipment overhauls to gain additional training.
  • Performs day to day building, ice and pool maintenance, general housekeeping, minor repairs to equipment, electrical, some carpentry and painting of the Community Centre.
  • Opens and closes the waterpark.
  • Operates fleet vehicles and equipment including an ice resurfacer, trucks, tractors, forklifts, ice edgers and assorted ice making and facility tools.
  • Performs daily, weekly and annual area maintenance tasks including ice maintenance, ice thickness inspections, ice installation and removal, painting, logos and custom painting for special events.
  • Follows technical standards and safety authority legislation, the B-52 refrigeration code and uses the refrigeration computer to verify proper operating conditions.
  • Performs regular refrigeration plant inspections and makes required adjustments, drains oil from system, adds oil to compressors, monitors for proper operating parameters relative to Class B certification/training.
  • Performs regular and annual pool maintenance tasks including backwashes, water chemistry calculations and chemical addition, water balancing, equipment repairs, verification of pool heating and air distribution systems and computer controls.
  • Follows provincial pool promotion and protection act legislation governing Class A public swimming pools when maintaining pool.
  • Performs repairs and equipment service, annual maintenance work and assists with larger scale repairs and renovations.
  • Completes daily, weekly and annual maintenance activities including ice surfaces, pools, squash courts, fitness centre, seniors' centre, and other Town buildings.
  • Solves and troubleshoots complex refrigeration problems.
  • Assists with housekeeping duties including sweeping, mopping, spot cleaning, washing and disinfecting.
  • Shovels snow, salts and picks up litter to ensure a safe facility.
  • Communicates with other staff and user groups to ensure their needs are met.
  • Sets up and tears down activity areas for events.
  • Verifies work completed by part time attendants to ensure approved standards are met.
  • Liaises with the public and user groups to accommodate rentals and provide assistance.
  • Assists in training, mentoring and coaching of and assigns work to part time attendants on various shifts.
  • Adheres to emergency, operating procedures and safety regulations by handling and storing chemicals safely, following evacuation plan, performing first aid to level of competency attained and following other procedures and directives.
  • Ensures overall safety and evacuation during fire alarms, gas or chemical leaks or other emergencies in the absence of Facility Supervisors according to the Community Centre Fire Safety Plan under the Ontario Fire Code.
  • Maintain equipment logs and records of work performed in accordance with operational and legislative requirements.
  • Provides courteous and helpful customer service to members of the Public.
  • Liaises with the public, user groups, stakeholders, and contractors as required.
  • Recommends cost saving measures relating to daily operations and general operational improvements.
  • Provides input in the development and review of policies, procedures, standards, and programs related to operations.
  • Carries out all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Town safety policies and operating and emergency procedure and in accordance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents, problems or concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Follows all Town policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Required to work a rotational operating schedule of two shifts covering seven days per week including daily provisions for refrigeration plant inspections to comply with refrigeration plant legislation for Class B guarded refrigeration plant.
  • May be required to act in the capacity of Chief Operator as operationally required.
Qualifications
  • Completed Secondary school education or an equivalent.
  • Two (2) years' related work experience in recreational facilities carrying out maintenance or operator duties or an equivalent is required, municipal experience is preferred.
  • Certified parks equipment safety operations is required.
  • Certified ice technician through ORFA or equivalent an asset.
  • Hold current Refrigeration Class B license (or the ability to maintain it within 24 months of employment).
  • Certified pool operator's course/designation is required.
  • General maintenance skills including a mechanical aptitude, basic plumbing, electrical, equipment repair, and HVAC.
  • Thorough knowledge of facilities operations and preventative maintenance processes.
  • Good communication skills to communicate effectively with the public and coworkers, and concisely to meet customer needs.
  • Knowledge of pool operations and ice operations procedures including relevant legislation and best work practices.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications to receive, complete, and send work orders, send and receive email, complete online training, and review relevant policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet the physical demands of the position including working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures, significant walking through facilities, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to collectively complete projects/assignments.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) as it relates to maintenance activities.
  • A valid Class G Driver's license in good standing with no more than six (6) demerit points.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C or the ability to obtain it prior to start date.
  • Hard working, motivated and reliable - with the ability to attend work regularly and punctually.
  • Ability to participate as an effective team member and to support and project values compatible with the Town.
