KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Operations:
- Develop and implement fund strategies aimed at delivering stable yields of Prime +2.0% to Prime +3.0%, ensuring a competitive return for investors.
- Oversee portfolio management, balancing a diverse range of real estate financing projects across land, construction, and finished inventory loans.
- Lead negotiations for debt and equity financing, manage leverage and cash flows, and ensure strong investor relations.
Board Engagement:
- Work closely with the Board of Directors, attending meetings and contributing to key strategic decisions.
- Ensure timely preparation of agenda items, information packages, and minutes for the board while securing adequate Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance.
Financial Oversight & Cash Flow Management:
- Supervise cash flow operations, including new loan approvals, syndications, loan repayments, investor dividends, and operational expenses.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting, providing clear financial oversight.
- Collaborate with the Controller and CFO to manage annual budgets, loan quotas, and detailed financial reporting.
Credit & Origination:
- Review and approve new loan applications, ensuring that comprehensive risk mitigation strategies are in place.
- Lead portfolio management efforts by structuring loans and providing critical risk assessments.
- Work alongside the President to support loan origination, structuring, underwriting, and the creation of co-lending partnerships.
Investor Relations & Industry Representation:
- Manage quarterly reporting to investors, building and maintaining strong relationships to attract and retain investment capital.
- Organize and lead investor events, providing updates through meetings, calls, and social media to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
- Represent the company at industry events and conferences, building relationships with banking partners and negotiating key terms for credit lines and loan covenants.
Compliance & Licensing:
- Act as the Designated Individual (DI) under the Mortgage Brokers Institute, maintaining compliance with the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) regulations.
- Oversee compliance with licensing requirements, working closely with the firms Chief Compliance Officer.
HR & Leadership:
- Lead a high-performing team, managing hiring and staff development while ensuring a smooth succession planning process for key roles.
- Mentor and coach staff to drive performance, while fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives:
- Oversee and execute special projects, including regulatory compliance, IT implementations, and office relocations, as needed.
- Manage key contract negotiations with co-lenders, service providers, and other business partners.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of experience in Real Estate Finance, including experience with credit unions, banks, or alternative lenders.
- Demonstrated success in leading portfolio management, credit underwriting, and real estate financing projects.
- Strong understanding of complex financial structures, with the ability to assess company financials, cash flows, and industry projections.
- CPA, CFA designation, MBA (or similar) is a strong asset.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to mentor teams, manage multiple stakeholders, and influence strategic decisions at the highest levels.
- Requires good analytical skills to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex material from multiple sources.
- A pro-active disposition with ability to work autonomously and within a team.
- High proficiency in financial analysis, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial software.
