About the Role:

Reporting

The Aircraft Structures Engineer IV - Authorized Person (AP) reports to the Director of Engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for certification of structural modifications to Part 23/25/27/29 aircraft and their components.
  • Make findings of compliance against structural certification standards within the Transport Canada scope of delegation.
  • Design alterations to aircraft structure, systems, equipment, and furnishings.
  • Analyze structures (hand calculations, finite element, fatigue, and damage tolerance).
  • Review and approve design and engineering documents.
  • Conduct Engineering Conformity Inspections.
  • Witness Certification Testing.
  • Ensure all design and administrative paperwork related to project certification is maintained in accordance with the company DAPM and Engineering Procedures Manual.
  • Liaise with Transport Canada and/or foreign CAA staff as required.
  • Support other departments such as MRO, Avionics, Sales, Manufacturing, and Customer Support.
  • Mentor junior design/engineering staff to assist their knowledge and skills growth.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Currently, or within the previous 12 months, hold a TC airworthiness delegation (AP within another company or DAR) and be eligible to be delegated as a Structures AP within the Avmax DAO.
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering (other qualifications may be accepted).
  • Advanced job-related degrees an asset.
  • Eng or equivalent in a related engineering field preferred.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of aircraft certification procedures.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of aircraft structural systems.
  • Familiar with part FAR 23, FAR 25, FAR 27 and FAR 29 aircraft.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office suite, CAD software (AutoCAD/SolidWorks preferred) and FEMAP or ANSYS.
  • Able to travel when necessary.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English (both written and verbal) and work well in a team environment.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Transport Canada delegated person.
  • Minimum 10 years of aircraft certification experience with responsibilities covering the design and certification of structural repairs and modifications.
  • Minimum 12 years of design and analysis experience in transport category aircraft structures.
  • Experience in fuselage penetrations, interior alterations, flammability, structural integration of equipment.
  • Proficient in engineering software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FEMAP, etc.).
  • Demonstrated capability and competency in field of expertise.
  • Experience in aircraft maintenance or fabrication is an asset.
