Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Senior Fisheries Engineer to lead fish passage projects and manage people, projects, and client relationships from our Halifax, Nova Scotia office. Salary: $106,846 - $160,281 annually (based on experience)

Who You Are

A licensed Professional Engineer with a BS, BSc or BEng and a minimum of 10 years' experience in fisheries or a closely related field. Previous experience with fisheries project work is preferred, but candidates with a structural, civil, or hydraulic background who are interested in focusing on the fish passage and fish hatchery design fields would be considered.

Knowledgeable: Knowledge of standards and codes applicable to fisheries engineering and related disciplines is required. The candidate should have experience working with clients, agencies, and contractors during planning and construction of projects. Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes for fisheries engineering projects in Canadian and United States markets is a plus.

Project Manager: Experience with project management, business development, and client management including management of multiple projects concurrently is desirable. The successful candidate will have experience managing a project team. Experience with managing multi-discipline projects is a plus.

Relationship-focused: Passion for mentoring junior-level staff and being part of a cohesive team. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team while applying engineering skills from analysis and design through to construction. Ability to establish long-lasting relationships with clients to assist them in solving complex engineering challenges.

Additional Requirements

  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in Canada and able to acquire authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Preference is given to applicants in Nova Scotia, but other provinces will also be considered.

About the Position

Typical duties of this position include serving a foundational role on multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists in the delivery of fish passage projects. Tasks include performing and/or managing structural, civil, and hydraulic design tasks in support of fisheries engineering projects. The successful candidate will join a team of technical professionals working on fisheries, hydropower, renewable energy, and ecological restoration projects in Canada and in the United States. The successful candidate will be supported and mentored by our senior engineering advisors and principal engineers in the fields of fish passage, fish hatcheries, and related facilities design while incorporating the skills of structural, civil, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
