Are you the one we're looking for?
We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Relief Youth Worker who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.
The Relief Youth Worker provides in-person programming at two locations - creating a safe, engaging environment for youth ages 13-18. Programming includes social and recreational programming (primarily basketball), homework support, and referrals, fostering improved youth outcomes and a better sense of community. We are seeking a candidate with flexible availability.
This position is a unionized, relief position. The rate of pay is $18.66 per hour. This position could entail working evening hours – specifically Monday to Friday, 5:45pm to 9:15pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster an inclusive, supportive environment for youth ages 13-18.
- Work in collaboration with the Provincial Youth Outreach Workers team, connecting youth to further supports in the community.
- Encourage participation from youth in activities that interest them.
- Be an active participant, engaged, and role modelling positive behaviours for youth.
- Participate fully in staff supervision and in-service meetings as required.
- Be responsible for statistics, reports, etc. as required.
- Follow agency and program policies and procedures.
- Build positive relationships with youth, both in-person, and virtually as needed.
- Actively supporting and education participants in the program to create a safe and inclusive space for all.
- Support in the further development of the program in partnership with the youth, program staff, and Program Manager.
What you will bring:
- Graduate of Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, or Recreation and Leisure diploma or a diploma/degree from a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum one year experience working with youth 13-18.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with a multicultural community.
- Good communication skills
- Staff with the ability to speak Arabic, or Somali would be an asset.
