Job Description:
Multiple opportunities exist for a Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Mechanic to join our Corporate Services Fleet team located in our Acheson and Janet field offices. Reporting to the Manager, Fleet, this position will be part of a team responsible for the repair, maintenance and service of a wide variety of AltaLink fleet equipment. The primary responsibilities will be to perform routine inspection, maintenance and repairs of equipment used in the construction and maintenance of Transmission Electrical facilities. You will also work with outside vendors related to the repair of specialized equipment or large-scale repairs.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnostics, repairs, maintains, and services light and medium diesel, gas, and electric powered vehicles, heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and off-road units. Heavy Equipment primarily consists of Insulated aerial devices, cranes, and digger derricks
- Perform annual Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVIP) in compliance with the National Safety Code (NCS)
- Required to safely operate a wide range of equipment
- Update vehicle records in Fleet management software
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes
- As required, develop and implement work plans including review and understanding of work packages and related work practices, procedures, policies/standards and regulations, ensuring that all practices meet or exceed existing requirements
- Ensure development, documentation and adherence to Safe Work Plans as required
- Provide support with the development of vehicle/equipment standards
- Provide support with the commissioning of new vehicles/equipment
- Coordinate and provide emergency response to power system emergencies as required.
Requirements
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (On Road) certification is required
- Mechanics must be CVIP certified (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program)
- Mechanics must hold or acquire valid manufacturer's certifications relative to maintaining various type of Electrical Utility Equipment
- A valid class 1 or 3 driver's license with Q endorsement is required
- Experience in hydraulic powered electric utility equipment would be an asset
- Strong mechanical as well as electrical aptitude
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
- Able to manage time and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Be competent and comfortable working with computers.
- Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive outcomes.
- Strong commitment to follow workplace safety requirements, procedures and standards with a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace
- Heavy Duty Mechanics are required to provide their personal tools for the position.
- Home work location is based out of the designated field office. Some travel with overnight out of town work to support remote offices in Lethbridge and Red Deer and respond to emergency field repairs.
- Occasional overtime required. Requirement to be on a paid on-call rotation.
- Mechanics must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and comfortable working at heights on occasion
- This is a physically demanding position. To ensure we are meeting our safety requirements, you are required to meet physical fitness requirements, including weight requirements related to equipment limitations, have good manual dexterity and physical coordination.
