Job Title: Building Ops (Superintendent)
Location: Toronto, ON
Start Date: Estimated to be January 2, 2025
Pay: $25.00/HR
Shifts: Multiple workers required. Shifts include Day Shift, Afternoon/Evening Shift and Weekend Shift. 24/7 availability is required.
Background Check: All candidates will be subject to complete several in-depth background checks. Workers selected to work at the Toronto Police buildings will be required to pass background checks that contain multiple tiers. Please do not apply if you cannot pass these background checks.
**NOTE: For the background checks that will be conducted, your photo ID address MUST be your current address, or the system will not be able to process you. Please do not apply if your valid Government issued ID does not have your current address where you currently reside on it.**
About the Opportunity:
MGR Workforce is partnering with the City of Toronto to provide critical support for city facilities during a potential labor disruption. We're seeking skilled and reliable Building Operators to maintain safe and operationally ready facilities, including Toronto Police Services (TPS) locations. This position is ideal for candidates with experience in building maintenance, HVAC, and BAS systems who can work flexible shifts.
What We're Looking For:Experience in building operations, including mechanical and electrical system maintenance. Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and air conditioning equipment, such as centrifugal chillers and cooling towers.
Communication: Strong oral and written English skills are essential.
Ability to work across various shifts, including days, afternoons, midnight, and weekends, with on-call availability for emergency work. Key Responsibilities:Perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in installing, operating, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment, including air conditioning systems (centrifugal chillers and cooling towers). Also conduct basic plumbing repairs that do not require a licensed tradesperson. Use of the Building Automation System (BAS) to manage and control building systems, including HVAC and other facility systems. Conduct preventative maintenance, perform minor repairs to building fixtures, and maintain accurate maintenance records. Use of ladders and scaffolding when necessary to complete maintenance tasks safely. Worker will also need to act as a support role by assisting tradespeople with various tasks as needed, contributing to a collaborative work environment. Conduct regular building walkthroughs, communicate with tenants to identify any issues, fill out maintenance checklists, and escalate potential concerns as necessary to ensure a safe and operational environment. Compliance with Service Level Agreement (SLA) is essential. City of Toronto closely monitors response to absentees, shift hours, reporting timeliness, and consistent communication with the city; failure to meet these service levels may result in immediate termination.
Additional Requirements:For positions within Toronto Police Services (TPS) locations, candidates are required to undergo a TPS-specific background check, which takes up to four weeks and requires the candidate to have resided in Canada for the past five years. A physically signed form is required for TPS clearance.
