Job Summary
The Intern, Sport Tourism & Hospitality will support Canlan Sports' initiatives to expand and enhance sport tourism and hospitality experiences. This position is ideal for a student or recent graduate with an interest in sports management, event planning, and hospitality. The intern will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of sport tourism events, community engagement, and hospitality services. The intern will gain hands-on experience in the dynamic sports industry and gain a comprehensive understanding of operations, marketing, and customer service within a sports facility environment.
Event Coordination and Support:
- Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of sport tourism events, tournaments, and hospitality services.
- Support the setup and breakdown of event spaces, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Act as a point of contact for event participants, teams, and spectators to provide a welcoming and informative experience.
Customer Service and Hospitality:
- Provide excellent customer service to clients, guests, and participants, handling inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience.
- Support hospitality operations by coordinating logistics for teams, catering, and special events.
- Assist in collecting customer feedback to identify areas for improvement
- Assist with hotel profile updates and upgrades.
Marketing and Promotion Support:
- Assist in promoting sport tourism events through digital and physical marketing channels.
- Help create and distribute promotional materials, coordinate social media posts, and maintain Canlan Sports' online presence.
- Support partnerships with local tourism boards, hospitality providers, and community organizations to enhance Canlan's visibility and reach.
Data Collection and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze data related to event attendance, guest satisfaction, and revenue to support program improvements and strategic decisions.
- Prepare reports and presentations that summarize key findings and highlight successful practices and opportunities.
Facility and Program Operations:
- Work closely with the operations team to maintain a high standard of facility readiness.
- Participate in day-to-day operational tasks as needed, including facility tours, check-ins, and inventory management.
- Assist in coordinating logistics with external vendors and stakeholders to ensure seamless event delivery.
Abilities, Attributes and Experience
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Sport Management, Hospitality, Tourism, Business, or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to effectively engage with diverse groups.
- A passion for sports, tourism, and hospitality, with a positive and proactive approach to customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with social media and event management platforms is a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support event schedules.
- Ability to start January 2025
