SLGA is currently seeking an experienced and self-motivated Investigator, Gaming Integrity to join its Gaming Integrity and Licensing Branch in Saskatoon, SK.
Who We're Looking For
The Gaming Integrity Investigator is responsible for conducting inspections of and investigations into casino gaming and licensed charitable gaming functions, gaming and non-gaming employees' backgrounds, gaming and non-gaming suppliers and horse racing activities to ensure compliance with The Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act, 1997, casino-related legislation and directives, Rules and regulations for Saskatchewan Horse Racing, various terms and conditions for charitable gaming and the Criminal Code. Occasionally, an investigator investigates good character issues related to other permits and licenses.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Investigates violations of The Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act, 1997; casino and charitable gaming legislation, directives, and Terms and Conditions; Rules and Regulations for Saskatchewan Horse Racing; and the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Performs due diligence investigations of gaming suppliers and gaming employees including criminal record and reference checks and conducts interviews as required.
  • Conducts operational reviews of casinos, charities, bingos, break opens, and raffles, for compliance with The Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act 1997, gaming-related legislation and directives, and Terms and Conditions
  • Interprets and advises current and potential licensees, registrants, casinos, bingos, and charities, on applicable rules and regulations
  • Conducts investigations of local, national and international gaming suppliers to ensure legislated good character requirements are met.
  • Performs investigations around any gaming-related complaints.
  • Performs investigations and live audits to ensure Video Lottery Terminals (VLT) operate correctly and in compliance.

Required Technical Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years' experience in law enforcement. Typically, this experience is gained by performing police criminal and investigative functions.
  • Experience in working with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Experience working with legal, regulatory, enforcement, investigative, inspection and court principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and municipal acts, regulations, legislation, statutes and bylaws about liquor and gaming activities.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques and approaches.
  • Knowledge of applicable inspection, enforcement, investigative, legal and court processes, techniques, procedures and documentation.
  • Knowledge of forensic accounting or auditing principles and practices, typically gained from fraud investigations.
  • Investigators must be able to qualify as a Peace Officer under The Saskatchewan Police Act and must qualify for registration as a Gaming Regulator.
  • Ability to encourage, cooperate with and advise others to promote and maintain positive working relationships and achieve client, branch and organizational goals.

Licensing Requirement
This position requires Gaming Regulator Registration.
Working Conditions
The work period for an Investigator is unregulated within any working day or series of working days, consisting of 224 hours and 2 earned days off in 6 weeks and no more than 12 hours in a day or more than 6 days in a calendar week.
This position is required to work hours that correspond with peak times for casino gaming and licensed charitable gaming functions. As such, regular evening and weekend work is the norm. Investigators are required to travel within the province, sometimes during inclement weather and/or poor travel conditions. Overnight stays are also required.
In the course of their duties, Investigators may need to interact with irate customers and as such, they must demonstrate an attitude of safety by always ensuring the safety of themselves and others within the workplace.
