Position Overview

Our construction team is seeking a skilled and motivated Site Labourer to join our multi and single-family construction projects. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic learner who can work independently with minimal direct supervision. The Labourer will be responsible for communicating with trades and customers, to ensure the production of the home is following a timely manner while maintaining the quality. This role requires the ability and willingness to perform a variety of hands-on construction tasks and maintain the cleanliness of the site in accordance with hazard assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean houses thoroughly throughout the construction process.
  • Clean out basements prior to graveling and pouring of basement floor.
  • Ensure that the basement stairs are clean after the concrete floor has been poured.
  • Install heaters into homes when required.
  • Perform work according to PDG quality standards and enforce on site.
  • Learn Occupational Health and Safety regulations and participate in safety meetings.
  • Ensure vigilance for safe conditions and take the appropriate action to rectify any unsafe situations.
  • Ensure that temporary sidewalks are placed properly and safe to walk on.
  • Inspect the ramps for safe access into the house.
  • Repair holes in the sub floor if required.
  • Support the activities of Trades and the Superintendent.
  • Install construction locks and window signs after the framers have completed framing.
  • Clean sites, pick up debris around the house and maintain a clean worksite and excellent working conditions.
  • Ensure the interior of the house is clean.
  • Inform the provider of the waste bins to have them emptied when they are full.
  • Asset Management of tools and equipment.
  • Stack excess lumber to be returned to the lumber company for credit.
  • Maintain all assets and materials in good working order.
  • Fill out attendance report.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 Years experience in new home construction.
  • Proficient in using a variety of carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple, competing priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good physical condition and stamina, able to perform manual labor and lift heavy materials.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness and ability to learn.
  • Self-motivated and a sense of pride in your performance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to take over when the Superintendent and Site Assistant are away, including the ability to schedule trades, update builder software, and take full responsibility for customer home start conferences, rough-in walkthroughs, and preoccupancy duties.
  • Experience with the City Safety Codes Inspection process.
  • First Aid Training, WHMIS, Fall Arrest.
  • Experience turning over homes to customers.
