Job Summary:
Mechanical designer to bolster our Engineering Team. Under the direct supervision of the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor, this pivotal role involves collaboration with the Mechanical Design Lead and Design teams, focusing on delivering projects within budget constraints. Our Engineering Teams are at the forefront of innovation, transforming dedication into exceptional products that empower our clients to achieve their highest goals. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed engineering analyses considering material strength, speed, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force implications for machinery and tool designs.
  • Evaluate engineering blueprints and specifications to outline design factors like shape, dimensions, and material hardness, contributing to the advancement of equipment, processes, and products.
  • Assess the practicality of utilizing one or multiple machines for sequential operations, aiming for efficiency and effectiveness in production.
  • Generate comprehensive working and detailed drawings, along with bills of materials for equipment and sub-assemblies, utilizing AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Examine design and system conformity with relevant standards, such as OSHA and CE, ensuring compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Inspect drawings for precision in measurements, material suitability, machining practices, finishes, and hardness.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to gather technical details and specifications, ensuring design requirements are accurately met.
  • Relay all design modification requests to the Applications Manager, ensuring a cohesive approach to project adjustments.
  • Communicate task progress to the lead designer, maintaining transparency and efficiency in project timelines.
  • Systematize and refresh drawing documentation, ensuring accuracy and current standards in design practices.
  • Create accurate drawings of existing tooling using precision measurement tools, such as verniers and micrometres, to ensure replication and consistency.
  • Work closely with fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians to finalize equipment and troubleshoot any arising issues, fostering a collaborative environment for problem-solving.
  • Prepare documentation for clients, providing clear and detailed information about the designed systems and equipment.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and projects as needed, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to objectives.
  • Exhibit a readiness to adapt work schedules, including weekends or travel as projects demand, showcasing dedication to meeting diverse project timelines and client needs.

Qualifications:

  • A solid educational foundation with a University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Robotics Automation Technology.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on Mechanical Design experience, specifically within the custom automation industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this field.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal abilities, enabling clear and effective collaboration across departments and with clients.
  • A proactive and independent work ethic, capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment, while also being an effective team player when collaboration is key.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of drafting principles, ensuring designs are both precise and practical.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks is mandatory, enabling the creation of detailed and accurate designs.
  • The ability to translate sketches or verbal instructions into detailed tooling designs, showcasing creative problem-solving skills.
  • A good understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics, critical for designing systems that are both efficient and reliable.
  • Familiarity with electrical devices such as switches, load cells, and LVDT's, integrating these components into designs for enhanced functionality and performance.
