Position Summary
As a Superintendent you will oversee all phases of Mass Timber Construction, Framing, and Hybrid construction projects from initial planning and constructability through to completion and hand-over on a project. The Superintendent will manage all site personnel including foreman, safety personnel, carpenters, labourers, and shop personnel as required. They will help to implement company processes and protocols for constant improvement of company culture, productivity, and professionalism. You will ensure the day-to-day coordination of trade contractors to ensure they turn out high-quality work that meets the approved project schedule and maintain satisfactory relationships with owners, General Contractors, subcontractors, unions, etc.
As a Superintendent your key accountabilities will involve:
- Allocate a team to the project in consultation with Seagate General Superintendent.
- Allocate field staff (Foremen, carpenters, and labourers) as required to manage project workload and to maximize efficiency.
- Provide continuous training, mentoring, and support to site foreman in areas relating to site management, cost control methods, client relations, risk management, technical and building methodologies, scheduling, safety, and dispute resolution.
- Promote, teach, and encourage all staff in the “Seagate Way” of doing things.
- Actively seek out solutions, not issues.
- Actively communicate and collaborate – “The team is stronger than the individual.”
- Accountability – We are all responsible for the success or failure of our projects.
- Regularly monitor site management, construction processes, potential efficiencies, and personnel performance.
- Perform regular check ins with Client/GC to ensure work on site, documentation, safety, product, etc. are to expected levels.
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with the Project Manager and other project team members, ensuring that you are all working on the same page for all levels of construction on site.
- Manage project schedules to ensure projects are being executed as planned. Work with the project team to mitigate and schedule issues.
- Manage Seagate's safety on the site in close association with Seagate's HSE Coordinator and HSE Manager, including:
- Assist in establishing a culture of safety within Seagate Mass Timber.
- Assess common hazards and work with the team to ensure we are managing these hazards efficiently and effectively.
- Work with the project team to generate PSSP's (Project Specific Safety Plans) – Early identification of hazards and planning for their management is critical.
- Promote the safety program and monitor adherence to it on site.
- Work with project team to allocate, distribute, and arrange storage for project trailers, safety trailers, tool bins, crane locations, site deliveries, staging areas, etc.
- Suggest, review, and help to implement industry advancements and new technological aspects of mass timber production and erection.
- Ensure sites are completing and maintaining all required documentation – (FLRA's, Daily Site Records, Safety Documentation, Inspections, QA/QC Documents, etc.
- Initiate and set the agenda for regular crew meetings.
- Assist in managing the professional development of employees under your supervision (i.e., seminars, courses, training programs, etc.).
- Participate in the writing or updating of company manuals, policies, and notifications.
- Manage the deficiency and warranty activities required at current and former sites.
- Attend company and industry events including meetings, trainings, workshops, etc.

As a Superintendent your experience and qualifications will include:
- A strong understanding of construction techniques, labor scheduling, and cost control methods.

- Experience in or a drive to learn about Mass Timber.
- Capability of successfully running projects independently and without direct management.
