Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • The Lead Electrician will be expected to work on the tools to complete the installation and commissioning of conveyor belts, including the services and utilities required for the conveyors, including, but not limited to services (power, fire suppression, controls, etc) required for the conveyors; replace all required electrical equipment in a MCC room; and reticulated power, plant air and water line along the length of the conveyor and perform any one or more of the following:
    • Be a "Leader in Safety" ensure all work proceeds under safe work conditions, procedures are followed using proper equipment (including personal protective equipment), support is provided to project personnel to "Stop and Correct" unsafe situations and information is passed on, including near misses so the company can take action to continually improve workplace safety for all
    • Prepare specifications and initiate procurement and properly store adequate inventories of required equipment and parts
    • Consult with Site Management on non-routine repairs, coordinates procedures for scheduled and emergency electrical maintenance and maintain daily communication of the status of major work being preformed
    • Ensure proper procedures are in place for electrical duties
    • Ensure electricians are trained in their job responsibilities
    • Ensure trainees or workers with lesser experience are placed with experienced safety conscious workers and that the leaders on the shift are aware of these situations and are held responsible for their training
    • Work collaboratively with other trades personnel and crew members
    • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
    • Read and interpret electrical diagrams and plans
    • Troubleshoot equipment using testers and by referring to wiring diagrams and schematics
    • Isolate electrical power to equipment for others as required in accordance to the project lock out procedures
    • Follow established procedures in shutting down and disassembling equipment, replacing damaged or worn parts and reassembling and testing equipment to perform to required specifications
    • Inspect, adjust and report any condition that may cause premature breakdowns
    • Ensure all required log books are maintained and updated
    • Other such duties as may be assigned

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full understanding and compliance with company policies and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other local regulatory requirements
  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Fully supports and actively participates in the team safety program based on culture and innovation
  • Ensure that any equipment deemed damaged or unsafe by virtue of a defect, or a machine of which any protection system is inoperative, is not used and communicated to the supervisor
  • Work closely with other crew members to create and maintain a synergy required to accomplish the shift line-up in the cycle
  • Develop applicable risk assessments, procedures and work standards for all tasks
  • Ensure applicable procedures and work standards for all tasks are understood, adhered to and complied at all times for all such work
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace
  • Utilize all safety systems as specified within the site safety management system


Pre-Employment Qualifications:

  • Pre-employment drug, alcohol and medical testing
  • Criminal Record Check (if applicable)
  • Possess a valid Journeyperson Electrician Certificate
  • Registered in Ontario as an Electrician considered an asset
  • Full Basic Underground Common Core an asset
  • Minimum 4 years of work related experience as a licensed Journeyperson Electrician

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • WHMIS
  • Fall Arrest
  • First Aid Certification
  • Working at Heights
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with others
  • Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
  • Experience with repairs and preventative maintenance to MacLean Bolters, Scoops, Dump Trucks, and Jumbo's considered an asset
  • Experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management System is an asset
