As part of our Sustainable Cities team, it's our mission within Land Development to create joyful, connected communities through sustainable infrastructure and innovative urban design. We transform cities by developing vibrant, interconnected spaces that tackle pressing challenges in housing affordability, sustainable land use, and infrastructure. With expertise in large-scale, master-planned communities, we deliver high-quality, sustainable land development solutions that foster lasting urban vitality.
As a Civil Engineering Manager - Land Development, you will be instrumental in advancing sustainable urban renewal. You'll lead a dedicated team to develop communities that reflect our commitment to sustainability and community connection. Your role involves leading the Land Development team, managing projects end-to-end, leveraging core skills across civil engineering, water resources, urban planning, and approvals management to deliver infrastructure that aligns with our mission to enhance urban life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Land Development team within the Energy and Sustainable Cities Business Line and in collaboration with the Executive Vice President including Client and Business Development, Financial Management, People Management and Development and Strategic Planning.
- Lead Project Delivery: Oversee all phases of land development projects, ensuring technical excellence, sustainability, and client satisfaction.
- Sustainable Urban Planning: Shape large-scale, sustainable communities that meet urban challenges around housing, land supply, and infrastructure.
- Collaboration and Integration: Act as a skilled lead consultant, coordinating diverse technical areas including master planning, engineering, surveying, and approvals to deliver cohesive, impactful urban spaces.
- Innovation and Quality: Champion technical innovation and sustainable practices, ensuring all projects meet high-quality standards valued by our clients.
- Develop and Maintain Relationships with industry professionals, consultants and other business leaders to help grow the business.
- Provide guidance and Oversight in the preparation of proposals, development of work plans, schedules, budgets, fees and negotiations;
The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:
- Completion of a university degree in Civil Engineering;
- 15+ years of project management on land development projects;
- Proven track record of leading Engineering teams;
- Professional Engineer in Ontario;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (French would also be an asset);
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, time management and ability to think creatively;
- Sound understanding of the land development process including the planning act and applicable subdivision and site plan approval process;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team;
- Strong project management experience including proper project set-up, scheduling, invoicing, (experience with financial software such as Deltek or oracle would be an asset);
- Has worked in, or understands the consulting engineering environment;
- Working knowledge of modelling software (PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, WaterCAD, SewerCAD, EPANET, etc.);
