OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for a Team Lead – Emissions Assurance within the Sustainability Services group in Calgary, Alberta. The Team Lead – Emissions Assurance will be responsible for overseeing the operations of Vertex's greenhouse gas emissions verification, auditing, and assurance services. This role involves managing a team of verification professionals, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations, managing the company's accreditation with the Standards Council of Canada, and driving the growth and success of the verification business. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in business, environmental engineering, environmental science, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • Previous experience managing a team and leading business development campaigns required
  • Proven business development skills, with the ability to identify and secure new clients
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of greenhouse gas (GHG) quantification and reporting protocols, methodologies, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, etc.) required
  • A strong understanding of provincial, state, and federal emissions regulations preferred
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications and tools used for emissions data management and verification
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with a variety of project stakeholders (field personnel, clients, technical personnel, and management)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask, a critical thinker with innovative, problem-solving abilities with strong time management skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Emissions Assurance Operations:
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of third-party greenhouse gas verification and assurance projects, including third-party auditing for certified natural gas (differentiated / responsibly sourced gas)
    • Lead and supervise a team of verification professionals, providing guidance, support, and performance management
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and quality assurance protocols for verification processes
    • Monitor project timelines, deliverables, and budgets to ensure efficient and timely completion of verification activities
    • Work collaboratively with Emissions Management Team Leads to resource field-based projects
    • Maintain a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern
    • Perform all duties as assigned and adhere to Vertex's Core Values
  • Compliance, Regulatory Adherence, and Accreditation:
    • Responsible for managing and maintaining Vertex's Accreditation as a Verification Body with the Standards Council of Canada
    • Stay updated on relevant greenhouse gas emissions reporting regulations, standards, and methodologies
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting obligations in collaboration with internal teams and clients
    • Maintain awareness of emissions assurance emerging industry trends, best practices, and evolving verification methodologies
  • Business Development and Growth:
    • Identify and pursue new client opportunities for emissions assurance and verification
    • Manage the development of marketing strategies, proposals, and pricing models for verification services
    • Participate in industry conferences, seminars, and events to promote Vertex's emissions assurance and verification services and enhance its reputation
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Build and nurture relationships with clients, understanding their needs, and providing solutions and support
    • Conduct client meetings, presentations, and negotiations to secure contracts and maintain client satisfaction
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of verification and third-party assurance processes
    • Identify areas for process optimization and innovation, leveraging technology advancements where applicable
    • Foster a culture of learning, professional development, and knowledge sharing within the verification team
