OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for full time permanent Database Analyst in Victoria-British Columbia, Calgary-Alberta, or Sherwood Park-Alberta. The Environmental Database Analyst will manage environmental data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and accessibility across projects. The ideal candidate will be skilled in spatial and environmental database management and adept at utilizing software like EQuIS, ESDat, and Excel. This role involves close collaboration with environmental scientists, technical teams, and laboratory staff to streamline data processes, support report generation, and maintain high data standards.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Geography, Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years industry experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with EQuIS, ESDat, or similar data management software.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including proficiency with macros and VBA programming.
  • Solid Python coding experience
  • Working knowledge of and ability to interpret environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards
  • Strong command of the English language including, but not limited, to excellent writing, grammar, and spelling
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with various internal stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced work environment, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in consulting, oil and gas, or environment industries is an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage spatial databases, particularly with EQuIS and ESDat, to support environmental data needs across projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and best practices, including familiarity with federal/provincial/municipal standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to compile, analyze, and integrate data collected in the field, including environmental chemistry and sample data, into centralized data management systems.
  • Facilitate data entry and quality control for laboratory and field data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with QA/QC protocols.
  • Assist technical staff in generating accurate, high-quality graphical and numerical outputs, primarily using Excel and data management software.
  • Provide reliable service to internal project teams, maintaining efficient report delivery, and ensuring data quality across projects.
  • Develop custom tools and scripts using Python, VBA, and other platforms to automate and optimize routine data management processes.
  • Interact with analytical laboratories and other departments to ensure the timely and efficient flow of data.
  • Maintain both hard and electronic copies of project files and ensure the organization of data-related documents.
  • Adapt to changing project needs and communicate effectively to meet project timelines.
  • Compile, manage and analyze data that is collected by field personnel using EQuIS and other database programs.

LOCATION

This position will preferably be based out of Victoria-British Columbia, Calgary-Alberta, or Sherwood Park-Alberta. There is the possibility for this role to be fully remote.
