As a Senior Software Developer on the Open Team, you will be tasked with solving complex engineering challenges, fostering a culture of excellence through mentorship, and leading initiatives to enhance our software and team processes.
Our Spare HQ is in Vancouver - BC, but this position is open to remote work options across Canada. If you like coming into an office, you can work from our HQ as desired, and we also provide a co-working stipend for those who wish to work in an office outside Vancouver.

About the Open Team: The Open Team at Spare develops and maintains innovative products that empower our partners to run efficient and comprehensive mobility operations. We own Open Fleets, a robust integration framework for real-time trip dispatching to external systems like Uber; Engage, a user-friendly platform for managing internal processes such as rider eligibility and complaints; and Workflows, a flexible self-serve automation tool that helps teams focus on what really matters. Our team is dedicated to building scalable, forward-thinking solutions that drive progress in the mobility space and adapt to diverse use cases.

- Work on innovative products, including Open Fleets, Engage, and Workflows.
- Drive team success by setting an example through your work, providing guidance, and leading the team towards achieving results.
- Take ownership of improving our software architecture and technology, as well as refine team processes to optimize performance.
- Collaborate with and mentor engineers of all levels.
- Review code authored by teammates, enhancing code quality and maintainability.
- Actively participate in team operations, contributing ideas to meet customer needs.
- Contribute and lead design discussions related to code architecture.
- Iterate and improve current development processes to ensure top-tier uptime and efficiency.
- Ensure Open Team achieves its OKRs by delivering high-quality, reliable features executed with velocity.
About you ✨You have…
- 4+ professional years of experience as a full-stack software developer;
- An ability to manage relationships and communication with many stakeholders, including internal colleagues, customers, and API integration partners;
- A strong understanding of the business and strategic factors involved in software development projects, with the ability to prioritize tasks and accurately estimate the time needed to complete your work;
- You have worked in a tech-focused company and better yet if you grew within that company;
- You have a strong history of navigating the software problem-solving process, including engaging in discussions, exploring multiple solutions, and critically evaluating each option.
- Experience working with 3rd party API integrations;
- Experience with Javascript/Typescript;
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and/or GCP;
- Experience working on SaaS platforms;
