Position Overview:
LaPrairie Crane is currently seeking a Full-Time Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Field Advisor to join its team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The HSE Field Advisor will collaborate closely with the Senior HSE Supervisor to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with statutory and contractual requirements. Regular travel across Alberta to our LaPrairie Crane and Entrec Alberta worksites will be an expectation for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct frequent field audits and safety inspections at multiple job sites and branch locations within the designated region.
- Travel extensively to various project locations to support HSE activities, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Provide professional expertise and guidance in all areas of HSE, including incident management and investigation.
- Act as a resource for managers and supervisors, offering support, advice, and direction on HSE matters.
- Interpret and apply Provincial and Federal OHS legislation across various projects.
- Conduct Toolbox Safety talks and mentor employees on-site to promote safe work practices.
- Liaise with contractors, third parties, and internal stakeholders to deliver presentations and increase awareness of HSE matters.
- Coordinate and perform Root Cause Analysis on incidents and accidents, traveling to incident locations as needed.
- Support safety meetings by providing relevant information and participating actively.
- Conduct in-field checks of paper and electronic safety documents, including hazard assessments, equipment inspections, and driver logbooks.
- Complete timely and accurate data entry into systems such as Asset Manager, TMT, and Workhub.
- Maintain HSE inventory supplies for facilities within the region.
- Be available on-call as required for emergency situations.
Shift:
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with overtime and extended travel as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant field safety experience.
- NCSO Professional certification or equivalent.
- OHS Certification would be an asset but is not required.
- Familiarity with crane, heavy haul, trucking, mining, oil and gas, and construction operations is preferred.
- Experience with the WCB process and claims management is an asset.
- Proven track record in safety management processes (e.g., safety committees, working groups, industrial auditing, and inspection experience).
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively, often on short notice.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels, including management, employees, and contractors.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
- Self-starter with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Ability to work harmoniously with a variety of personalities and maintain a positive team environment.
Note: This role requires frequent travel to remote work sites and extended overnight stays. Applicants must be prepared to work away from home on a regular basis and be flexible with changing work locations.
