The Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society (Compassionate Neighbours) is a registered charitable society, governed by the BC Societies Act and its own Constitution and Bylaws. Compassionate Neighbours was incorporated as a non-profit organization on June 21, 2017, and received charitable status in 2019. The services and programs that we offer promote the social and emotional wellbeing of our Chilliwack older adults and the caregivers of older adults.
JOB TITLE: Part-Time Executive Director
Job in brief:
We are looking for a Non-Profit Executive Director (ED) to join our team and guide our organization forward by overseeing all operations, finances, programs, social media, technical aspects, staff, and volunteers. The Executive Director will drive strategic planning, fundraising, and stakeholder relationships to achieve the organization's mission and goals.
The Non-Profit Executive Director responsibilities include:
- Presenting accurate financial reports to the board of directors and leading annual budget reviews
- Reaching the goals and objectives of the organization's Strategic Plan
- Leading fundraising activities for the organization and building strategic relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders
- Seeking and applying for grants that align with our programs and mission
- Overseeing program coordination and volunteer recruitment activities
Ultimately, you will work with various staff and volunteers in the organization to ensure each understands and upholds our mission, vision and core values; we hit our annual fundraising goals; complete our strategic plan objectives; maintain and grow our programs; and continue to build our volunteer base for future success.
Working Hours and Location:
This is a contracted part-time Executive Director position of 21 hours/week, that is flexible and permits working from home, if living in the Chilliwack area. The position requires the use of your own vehicle.
Contract wage:
$30/hour to $45/hour dependent on previous work experience and qualifications.
The position has a 3-month probationary period which will allow time to evaluate if this is a good fit for you and vice versa. This is a one-year contact that will renew annually.
Qualifications:
- Strong and dynamic leadership style and management background. Leads with enthusiasm. Experience in a non-profit environment, is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to a participatory leadership style.
- Able to develop and lead effective resource development strategies; has personal ability to make fundraising appeals; adept at in-kind and planned giving resource development.
- Understands budget development and implementation; can maintain strong financial controls.
- Excellent communication and public relations skills, both oral and written.
- Has a collaborative style of communication and is skilled in interacting with diverse people and groups.
- Experience in negotiating service contracts is an asset.
- Proficiency in database management and Microsoft products.
Working Relationships: The Executive Director will work closely with:
- Board of Directors: reports to the Board of Directors. Will work with the three standing committees: governance, internal affairs, external affairs, and with any adhoc committee that is formed.
- Program Staff: Will be the manager over program staff and will lead, guide and supervise each in their various roles;
Community & Government Agencies: will maintain and build relationships with community and government agencies to further the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Vision:
- Models and clearly articulates to all stakeholders, community, and government agencies, the Compassionate Neighbours' organizational mission, vision and core values.
- Inspires visionary thinking in others that is consistent with the values, mission & vision of the society.
Strategic Leadership:
- Drives strategic planning, fundraising, and stakeholder relationships to achieve the organization's mission and goals.
- Strives for a personalized and innovative social media presence that will increase community and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitors grant availability and seeks new grants that will enhance program capabilities.
- Ensures that services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals and objectives.
- Continuously assesses for emerging concerns and changes that may affect the functioning and delivery of organizational programs and proactively seeks innovative solutions.
- Maintains timely and effective communication with the Board of Directors regarding organizational successes and challenges. Works collaboratively with the Board to seek innovative ways to overcome the challenges and to celebrate the successes.
Planning:
- Ensures there is an ambitious and realistic yearly fundraising plan that includes fundraising campaigns, events, and cultivation of new donors, foundations, and grant possibilities.
- Participates in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new donors.
- Assists the Board of Directors in revising and updating organizational policies and procedures that supports and guides Board, staff, and volunteers in their various roles and responsibilities.
- Guides the Board in formulating and implementing risk management policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all staff and volunteers are aware of and follow the organizational policies and procedures.
- Implements succession planning for all Board and staff positions to maintain the longevity of the Society.
- Continuous evaluation and improvement of program offerings for older adults and caregivers of older adults in the Chilliwack community, as the organization continues to strive to alleviate social isolation and loneliness among this
population. - In collaboration with the Board of Directors, monitors the ongoing capital needs of the Society, including office and venue space, equipment, and furnishings.
Financial Stewardship:
- Responsible for the monthly organizational expenses and ensuring that the expenses are within the operational and grant budgets set for each program.
- In collaboration with the bookkeeper, to provide monthly financial statements to the Treasurer and the Board of Directors.
- Prepare accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate fundraising results, variances, and performance trends.
- Coordinate and lead annual budget reviews, monthly and quarterly reviews, and periodic forecast updates.
Human Resources:
- Provides leadership to and manages the efforts of staff and volunteers to ensure appropriate support for all programs.
- Promotes the retention of qualified staff and volunteers by providing career coaching, growth, and personal development for all.
- Ensures the safe storage of confidential information and oversees the education of the staff regarding the policies relevant to confidentiality.
Governance:
- In partnership with the Board, develop effective strategies for achieving the mission and vision of the Society.
- Support the Board in the regular review of organizational policies to maintain safe and healthy operational functioning, permitting the mitigation of risks before they occur.
- Be a resource for the Board in providing relevant and necessary information that will allow the Board to make informed decisions.
- Support the Board with professional development.
- Support the Board in recruitment of new Board members.
