Migisi Sahgaigan School is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and passionate Principal to lead our education team. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Principal will manage all aspects of school operations, ensuring a positive and safe learning environment for students. This role serves as the educational supervisor, leader, and a liaison with the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set and promote high academic and personal standards for students and staff.
- Manage school operations, including curriculum, extracurricular activities, discipline, and attendance.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and emergency protocols.
- Promote school health and wellness programs and ensure building maintenance.
- Develop staffing schedules, ensure proper coverage, and approve staff timesheets.
- Utilize data to enhance school programs, tailoring curriculum to student needs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Education and teachers to align instruction with Ontario or Federal standards.
- Review and adjust educational programming to improve outcomes annually.
- Provide leadership that promotes high educational standards and clear expectations.
- Encourage staff development and foster a supportive learning environment.
- Support teachers in preparing for evaluations and report cards.
- Lead team meetings and professional development initiatives for staff.
- Promote students' self-esteem and teach cooperative learning skills.
- Strengthen partnerships with the community, parents, staff, and students, recognizing their roles in education.
- Model ethical, professional behavior and maintain positive school culture.
- Oversee the annual school planning and improvement initiatives.
- Ensure school programs are consistent with provincial and federal guidelines and Eagle Lake First Nation's objectives.
- Coordinate events, including assemblies, guest speakers, fairs, fundraising activities, graduations, and more.
- Communicate professionally and sensitively with parents, stakeholders, and community members.
- Attend meetings as requested by the Director of Education and provide updates.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Principal Qualification Certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience; experience working with First Nations is an asset.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and the community.
- Familiar with student discipline and behavior management strategies.
- Effective at managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in educational software and technology.
- Respect and understanding of Anishinaabe culture, values, and traditions.
- Knowledge of relevant educational policies and best practices.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and varying hours as needed.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Criminal Record Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
