Truly Green Farms, Cedarline Greenhouses and associated Company's are diverse Agri-businesses operating in Chatham-Kent that ranges from producing quality fruits and vegetables to livestock management. The position of Corporate Controller is a great opportunity for a financial professional who thrives in a busy workplace and can work effectively in a team environment, collaborating closely with senior management. This position will have the necessary support staff to handle day-to-day transactions.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will:
- Manage the accounting operations of various companies, including two greenhouses and other smaller agri-businesses;
- Oversee, maintain, and report from a system of accounting records, comprehensive controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of reported financial results, and ensure they comply with GAAP;
- Produce interim and annual financial statements, and financial/business case analyses as required;
- Manage and maintain a documented system of internal accounting policies and procedures;
- Manage outsourced accounting relationships and banking functions, while providing leadership to the accounting staff;
- Work with the Company's senior leadership team to consistently evaluate and design an organizational structure to achieve and track Company goals and objectives, and recommend benchmarks to measure the Company's performance;
- Manage Company transactions, including: accurate and timely accounts payable recording and processing, prompt collection of accounts receivable, processing of bi-weekly payroll, bank reconciliations, and the maintenance of the entire chart of accounts, an orderly accounting filing system, and a system of controls over the all accounting related transactions;
- Manage Company reporting, including: timely and accurate financial statements for internal/external purposes, financial and operating metrics, annual budgets and forecasts, systematic management of cost reports, and financial analysis for capital investments, pricing/product decisions and contract negotiations; and
- Manage Company compliance, including: coordination and management of annual review engagements with external accounting firms, monitoring debt levels against the financial covenants, and senior government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Your background should include:
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a financial/accounting position;
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent. CPA designation preferred;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, analytical and organizational skills;
- Excellent financial acumen and experience using financial reporting software and ERPs (e.g. Sage300);
- Self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to work closely with the senior management team; and
- A desire to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional/industry related publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
