Primoris Canada is an infrastructure contractor serving major firms in the oil, gas, power, petrochemical, and heavy oil industries and include services covering tailings and hydro-transport pipeline construction and maintenance, storage tank construction and maintenance, industrial facilities multi-discipline construction and maintenance, piping fabrication, and pipeline integrity services.

SUMMARY

The Piping Estimator will have an understanding of the estimating process and participate in the preparation of capital cost estimates in the form of lump sum, unit rate, or force account commercial models. In addition to capital cost estimates, the role will involve taking part in cost risk analysis and EPCM cost estimates. The required Estimating duties include the development of Piping estimates including direct labour hours, equipment, material and indirect components together with the Piping related proposal information that may include development of build strategies, constructability and construction execution plans or schedules to provide complete and comprehensive piping estimates and proposals.

Working with the Estimating Lead, the Piping Estimator will also develop, maintain and train others in quantity based Piping estimating systems using Accubid Enterprise estimating software. All estimating systems developed will be integrated with the existing Primoris project controls, accounting, closing systems in Hard Dollar and other requirements.

JOB DUTIES

  • Completion of labour and material take-off for Piping estimates.
  • Apply appropriate labor and unit cost rates and factors to the individual cost elements to establish total costs.
  • Evaluate the costs estimated; includes the application of alternative pricing.
  • Determine the risk level associated with estimates and quotations and understand contingencies required to offset these risks.
  • Document the rationale, methodology, and supporting information utilized for the estimate.
  • Support source selection, negotiation, fact-finding, and/or audits, and update the estimate as required.
  • Work alongside the procurement department to solicit and analyze quotations for various disciplines from subcontractors and other service suppliers.
  • Support and develop Construction Execution Plans, Path of Construction presentations, Complete workface planning, and basic scheduling.
  • Various other duties as requested by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ideal candidate would have a Pipe trades background
  • 1 – 3 years working experience in estimating, or equivalent position

SKILLS

  • Direct experience with estimating process plants, Petro-chemical, or other refinery EPC type projects is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of typical costs associated with piping activities.
  • Knowledge of estimating software (Accubid/Hardollar) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Primavera scheduling software (or MS Project) is an asset.
  • Previous knowledge of cost control preferred.
  • Assertiveness and self-assurance in presenting and supporting conclusions, strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and the ability to incorporate work-breakdown structure (WBS) techniques are increasingly important in cost estimating complex development projects.
  • Able to often work under pressure and stress, especially when facing bid deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with estimating software.
  • Highly organized and able to coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
