Lex Engineering Ltd. (“Lex”) is a medium-sized consulting engineering firm with offices in Burnaby, Kelowna, and Canmore. Our team of more than 35 full-time employees consists of professional engineers, designers, drafters, and administrators, and takes great pride in our entrepreneurial culture.

Since 1979 we have provided a comprehensive range of industrial power and control engineering services - including power system studies, design development, feasibility studies, procurement, construction support and commissioning. Lex has designed over 80 high voltage substations, numerous power distribution systems within plant facilities, and several hundred kilometers of transmission and distribution lines. Our market sector includes public and private utilities, heavy industry, educational institutions, the forest sector, mines, oil & gas, ports, city works, airports, bulk material handling, and independent power producers. Lex Engineering is part of Quanta Services Company.

We are looking for a Drafter/Design Technician to join our electrical design group in Burnaby, BC. You will work in a team setting and participate in a wide variety of design for underground and overhead design projects, including transmission, distribution and substation design and power system studies. You may also be asked to work closely with other Lex staff in the preparation of engineering design packages not related directly to power systems. Responsibilities
  • Work within a project team of engineers and designers in our Substation and Line Design Group;
  • Assist with substation and overhead lines/underground cable routing layout & configuration design for high, medium, and low voltage projects;
  • Assist with project development, scope, and budget;
  • Attend client design review meetings;
  • Conduct field site inspections and field reports;
  • Gain knowledge of power system studies and analysis using engineering software packages such as PLS- CAD, EasyPower, SKM, ETAP, Win-IGS, CDEGS, and PS-CADD;
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications, electrical installation scope of work documents, and Performance specifications;
  • Assisting the engineering teams with drafting and CAD updates to drawings;
  • Prepare, review and complete drawing mark-ups;
  • Prepare and issue drawing packages;
Education, Training & Experience
  • The successful candidate should possess a Diploma or Certificate in Design or Drafting from a recognized institute.
  • The ideal candidate will have 4-5 Years of drafting experience.
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft office software suite of programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an attention to detail are essential.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Previous experience working on HV Substation designs for Utilities in North America would be considered an asset.
  • Previous exposure to drafting software such as AutoCAD would be an asset
  • Class 5 Drivers license required
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 8-hour days

This is a paid position with a Salary range of between $22-$32 an hour.
