About the Organization:

The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is a regional social planning and development organization which provides innovative programs and service to Indigenous communities in Simcoe County, Muskoka, and York Region, including wholistic Health Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Primary Care Team. As an Interprofessional Health Care Team, Mamaway team members provide primary care, mental health, traditional healing, and health promotion services for Indigenous communities. We provide wholistic services in clinic locations, community and in partnership with mainstream service partners.

About the Role:

The Medical Office Administrator (often referred to as the MOA) is an integral part of the operation of Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin clinics and health services. The MOA is responsible for the efficient and effective support of planning, development, day-to-day operations and organizations of our Indigenous healthcare services. The MOA position works closely with an interdisciplinary team including Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Traditional Healing Coordinator, Therapists, Health Promoters and many other roles. The role provides opportunities for interacting with providers, clients, and communities.

What You Bring:

  • Relevant knowledge and experience attained through graduation from a recognized College/University in Medical Office Administration or related
  • Previous experience working within the Indigenous community, combined with knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and Indigenous cultural practices.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar position, preferably in the nonprofit community health or social service sector.
  • Previous experience in community health/social services and/or values-based organization an asset.
  • Previous experience working with interdisciplinary
  • Ability to provide indigenous culturally safe, trauma-informed care and services.
  • Ability to understand cultural values, traditions, history.
  • Ability to integrate Indigenous perspectives into services.
  • Ability to respect individuals' experiences, foster healing.

  • Regular travel to meetings and communities, will be required – vehicle an asset
  • Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement
  • Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar.

Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with BANAC and include the following:

  • Worksite location
  • Valid P.R. and A.E.D. Certificates required
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver's License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector
