Job Summary:

Machinists set up and machine using conventional, portable and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines that cut or grind metal and other materials into products with precise dimensions. These machines include lathes, milling machines, saws, grinding machines, drilling machines, boring machines, line borers and portable milling machines.


Job Responsibilities:

Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:

Check network to see if all necessary files are ready for the job
B) Receive drawings and material block(s) from supervisor
C) Square blocks to dimensions on drawings
D) Bore clamping slots, lifting holes and waterline as directed
E) Review drawings and correct any observable errors or report problems/errors to designer and/or supervisor
F) Check finished product and check dimensions
G) Complete Boring Mill portion of specification sheet and prepare for next job
H) Additionally, Boring Mill requirements should be conveyed to designer and supervisor
I) Ensure your work area is safe and clean at all times and operate the Boring Mill in a safe manner

Job Qualifications:

Two (2) to three (3) years of Boring Mill Machine experience and/or certificate
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints of 2D drawings, and sketches
• Able to operate basic tool room machines such as band-saws, mills, lathe, surface grinders, drill presses and other machineries associated with the trade in a safe and efficient manner
• Must be able to handle and operate all hand, pneumatic and other tools associated with the trade in a safe and efficient manner
• Is in possession of the basic tools needed to complete the assigned job (i.e. measuring tools, hand tools, optional power/pneumatic tools) or is willing to acquire the necessary tools within a reasonable time period
• Proactive in making recommendations for improvements to processes and procedures
• Detailed knowledge of choosing proper parameters of machines and materials
• Flexible schedule to accommodate shift work, if required
• Assembly knowledge of blow and injection moulding, deflashing units, fixture equipment etc., is an asset
• Must be able to perform setups and setups requiring the use of tooling balls as a datum point. Complex and compound angle setups are an asset.
