Position Summary:
The Engineering Manager will play a crucial role in steering our business optimization efforts towards success. Responsible for overseeing a team of engineers, this position will ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products and processes with a focus on automation and cost reduction. Reporting to the VP of Business Optimization, the Engineering Manager will be key in achieving overall manufacturing success, demonstrated through collaboration and effective communication between all departments.
Responsibilities & Expectations:
1. Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear expectations. provide regular feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
- Act as a liaison between engineering, operations, sales and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
2. Project Management:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse, Finance) to define project goals, scope and deliverables.
- Develop and implement CAPEX project plans, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
- Evaluate CAPEX projects to understand the ROI for each project and make data-driven suggestions for spend plan.
- Regularly report on project status, risks, and mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
3. Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to optimize engineering and other critical business processes, streamline workflows, and enhance overall efficiency.
- Implement best practices while supporting the delivery of high-quality, modern technology and software.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis of safety risks, quality defects and all areas where detailed problem-solving is required.
- Ensure all processes operate within lean manufacturing principles (e.g. Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kanban, poka-yoke, etc.).
- Establish and maintain work standards for product costing and productivity measurement.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering with P. Eng. designation
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a process engineer in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in leading and managing engineering teams in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Expertise in PFMEA techniques.
- Expertise in Lean Manufacturing techniques.
- Experience of participation in a product development team from inception to manufacturing launch including evidence of the imposition of DFMA into the design.
- Knowledge and execution experience of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow.
- Proven ability to create and execute project plans that have achieved the identified targets.
- Experience working with Quality Control including problem solving and root cause analysis.
