Position Summary
The Creative Copywriting Strategist leverages strategic thinking and industry best practices to deliver impactful copywriting and editing, while maintaining consistency in the College's brand tone and voice across multiple marketing channels.
As a member of the Marketing and Recruitment team, this role is crucial in crafting compelling narratives that shape the College's brand story and messaging for key audiences and partners. They produce integrated creative content, develop engaging copy for various platforms, and contribute to project development through collaboration, problem-solving, and innovative ideas.
By championing and enhancing the College's brand and voice, this role strengthens its reputation as an educational leader and vital community member.
Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Content creation
• Develops copy and provides strategic direction for taglines, advertising, brand storytelling, and scripts across various media, including print, radio, cinema, web, and social platforms.
• Collaborates with colleagues and partners to conceptualize and propose creative content ideas.
• Ensures consistency in brand language and writing tone, aligning with visual creative initiatives.
• Manages digital content for Bow Valley College's internal and external signage, including TV displays and building signs.
• Applies an editorial lens that emphasizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
• Researches and conducts interviews with employees, partners, alumni, and students to create compelling stories and profiles.
• Partners with videographers/photographers to capture media that complements both new and existing content.
• Participates in creative strategy meetings, contributing to ideation, editorial direction, and quality assurance.
• Champions the evolution of the College's brand voice and maintains the writing style guide.
• Supports advertising campaigns and other college-wide projects through copywriting, editing, and proofreading, adhering to Canadian Press style.
• Leads editorial projects, assigning story ideas, creating timelines, and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Takes the lead on high-profile communications projects, ensuring strategic messaging and coordination.
• Updates and maintains the College's style guide to reflect evolving brand and editorial standards.
Marketing/partner coordination
• Supports the integration of Communication goals, priorities and projects by providing knowledge and support to Marketing Specialists.
• Oversees the production, content development, and delivery of all campus television slides and exterior building billboards.
• Sits on intra-organizational committee as a department representative, fulfilling all required duties including liaising between the committee and Marketing and Recruitment, writing and editing, and project management.
Creative
• Coordinates with key partners, stakeholders, and creative team members to brainstorm, ideate, and craft strategic messaging that aligns with the College's brand voice. This includes scriptwriting for video, radio, and other multimedia content.
• Provides copywriting guidance to the creative team to ensure all content reflects the College's key messages, tone, and branding standards.
• Conducts interviews and develops questions to uncover compelling stories that reflect the College's mission, values, and impact on the community.
• Reviews, edits, and proofreads all content, ensuring high-quality standards, accuracy, and consistency in brand messaging.
• Maintains and updates the brand style guide, ensuring that tone, style, and voice are clearly defined and applied across all communication channels.
• Maintains and evolves the College's voice while ensuring consistency across all communication channels.
• Understands and harnesses trends in the industry.
Required qualifications:
• Post -secondary Diploma (Communications, journalism, Marketing or an applicable field)
• Minimum 5-7 of related experience
• An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered
• If your education was received internationally we will require you provide an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire
