The Spiritual Care Lead reports to the Programs Manager and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to plan, implement and evaluate a spiritual care program that meets the spiritual and religious needs of the residents and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Promote and nurture a healthy workplace culture, including participating in the orientation program and regularly attending department staff meetings
- Leads Spiritual Care Committee
- Work collaboratively with HR to provide educational sessions and activities to enhance workplace spirituality.
- Develops Spiritual Care training awareness materials and other communications to increase employee awareness of the services offered by the department
- Ensuring pastoral care is provided to residents and staff.
- Oversee that new residents receive a pastoral visit and that the completion of an assessment and care plan determining residents' spiritual and religious needs and wishes occurs.
- Complete documentation and accurate records as required
- Visit with residents and provide spiritual and religious care as requested by residents and per referral from staff.
- Visit with family members as requested and appropriate.
- When requested, arrange for faith group-specific spiritual care.
- Plan and support programs/activities based on resident assessments.
- Facilitate one-on-one, small group programs on units and Home wide programs
- Facilitate or co-facilitate religious services and special services as needed and appropriate
- Arrange for weekly chapel services reflecting a variety of denominations
- Assist and participate in regular Celebration of Life Services
- When required arrange for providing specific faith tradition services
Qualifications:
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
- Master's Degree with relevant theological, divinity, or spiritual studies from a recognized institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools;
- Minimum five years practical and related experience.
- Certification as a Spiritual Care Practitioner or Psycho-Spiritual Therapist with the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC) preferred. Or, at minimum, have completed two units of SPE with CASC.
- Current membership with Canadian Association for Spiritual Care
- Endorsement by a recognized religious or faith group
- Experience working in the context of death and dying and/or palliative care considered an asset
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- To show evidence of being focused on people's feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
- To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals' rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one,
- As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements,
- Two supervisory references required
