Summary of duties: Under the direction of the Director of Programs-Child Development Team, the Vancouver Island Service Area Coordinator will provide leadership, coordination and support to the Child Care Resource and Referral programs in the region. The Service Area Coordinator will work with the CCRR's in the region, and the other SAC across the province in collaboration with each other and liaise with the Ministry of Education and Child Care. Outcomes include enhancing communication between CCRR's and the Ministry of Education and Child Care, ensure appropriate standards across the province, and promote CCRR's and child care access and acquisition across the region.

Education, Training and Experience

· Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent

· 2 years experience in Childcare program and/or in a CCRR Program

· Experience working with families

· Experience working with levels of government

· Knowledge of community and provincial resources in the field of Child Care.

· Knowledge of the Early Learning Framework

· Experience with managing small budgets

· Self motivated, well organized and flexible

· Demonstrated computer skills

· Leadership and management skills

· Ability to lead Provincial, regional, and community meetings

· Ability to flex work schedule as this position requires travel at times throughout the region.

· Understanding of the BC Child Care system

· Ability to work effectively with families, staff, volunteers, and organizations

· Valid Driver's License

· Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Advocacy

· To support CCRR's to provide quality programing for children and families

· To advocate for support and change within the systems that affect children and families

Please Note:

  • The successful candidate will begin employment at 5848 Clements Street, Monday to Thursday, 8:30 – 16:00. Days may vary. Flexibility is required as the Service Area Coordinator travels throughout the region during the year.
  • This position is open to all qualified individuals and requires Union membership.
