Registered Dietitian
We provide primary health care through a range of options including prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Our interprofessional teams include health professionals, educators and support workers representing both traditional Indigenous and contemporary models of care and using wholistic health and community development concepts.
The Diabetes Dietitian (RD) works within an interprofessional team comprised of registered and non-registered healthcare professionals, both directly and under the facilitation of medical directives, and assists with the development and implementation of a culturally appropriate interprofessional diabetes strategy that promotes self-care and is responsive to diverse needs.
The RD provides assessment, education, nutritional care planning, counseling, and therapeutic support to facilitate self-care for clients living with diabetes, within the professional scope of practice established by the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
This position is part of the Ontario Nurses Association Bargaining unit.
NOTE: Traditional practices involving burning sacred medicines including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage and cedar and other cultural protocols occur regularly within our work setting.
Qualifications:
- current registration with College of Dietitians of Ontario; certified or eligible for certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator
- willing to work to full scope including performing delegated acts through medical directives
- experience working in an Indigenous organization - ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin a definite asset
- demonstrated cultural competencies to fully understand how to direct and facilitate the development and implementation of diabetes strategic plan in a culturally appropriate way
- experience and demonstrated ability to work within a wholistic care model; able to work independently and be an effective team member
- willingness and ability to travel. Valid drivers' license and own vehicle required; copy of current drivers' abstract required
- commitment to ongoing training and professional development relevant to job requirements and organizational priorities
- positive attitude and capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model
- current Vulnerable Sector Check and proof of immunization in compliance with policy requirements is mandatory
