Company Description
Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure that construction activities, throughout all phases of the subway project, adhere to federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, applicable environmental permits, approvals, and other regulatory requirements.
- Environmental Monitoring: Monitor and assess environmental conditions during construction activities, including air quality, water quality, and soil quality.
- Site Inspections: Conduct regular, comprehensive inspections of construction sites to identify potential environmental hazards, with a focus on areas such as watercourses, erosion and sedimentation control measures, spills, effluent containment, and dust management.
- Raising awareness: Communicate inspections findings, recommendations, and compliance requirements to project managers, contractors, and stakeholders, by providing expert guidance and advice on environmental issues, best practices, and mitigation measures.
- Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with environmental consultants, community groups, and stakeholders to communicate environmental plans, address concerns, and ensure transparency.
- Compliance Reporting: Support and advise Environmental Team in comprehensive environmental compliance reports to regulatory authorities, project managers, and stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to project teams, contractors, and subcontractors on environmental best practices, regulations, and protocols.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Support sustainability initiatives within the project, such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, green procurement, and biodiversity conservation.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC) certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in infrastructure construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing environmental management systems and compliance strategies.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex environmental data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in the use of environmental monitoring equipment and software.
