JOB SUMMARY:
The Wellness Counsellor will provide counseling services to adults who are experiencing mental health issues. The Wellness Counsellor will provide services through a trauma-informed lens with a focus on addressing intergenerational trauma inclusive of grief & loss. They will also collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in the planning and implementation of a variety of community activities to promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness.
POSITION DUTIES:
- Conduct risk and strength assessments of individuals, families and/or groups.
- Identify needs, values, preferences and personal resources.
- Engage individual and/or family in the development of a wellness/treatment plan.
- Select appropriate client-specific approaches from a variety of theories and counseling strategies and interventions to support individuals, family or groups in resolving addiction-related issues.
- Assist clients to identify, build and engage personal support networks.
- Demonstrate consistent ability to maintain positive working relationships.
- Monitor and evaluate progress and adapt wellness/treatment plan as required.
- Develop and implement an appropriate discharge plan.
- Prepare clear, concise and accurate client records.
- Collaborate on the planning and implementation of a variety of community events to promote personal, family and community wellness.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Preference will be given to a member or resident of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
- Hold, or be willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Valid class G driver's license, be insurable and vehicle for on-the-job use, may be required to use this vehicle to transport clients/s.
- Provide a driver's abstract annually.
- Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
- Sign and comply with an annual oath of confidentiality.
- Must provide a criminal record check prior to commencing employment.
- Incumbent is subject to six months' probation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree in social work, psychology or related human services program.
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a culturally competent practice.
- Knowledge of and respect for Anishinaabe history, practices, teachings, language, values and beliefs is of critical importance.
- The ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin will be considered a definite asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet and email software/s, and use of on-line learning resources
