Are you a Speech-Language Pathologist interested in supporting children and their families? Are you interested in working in a team environment with other professionals such as psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, dietitians, behaviour therapists, mental health councillors, and others?

FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization located in Northwestern Ontario that has recently been designated a Children's Treatment Centre. In November 2022, FIREFLY achieved “Exemplary Standing” with Accreditation Canada. We are dedicated to supporting and strengthening the health and well-being of families, children, and youth through emotional, physical, developmental, and community services. Clients can access FIREFLY service in a variety of locations: centre based, in community (fly-in and drive-in communities), in schools, pre-school and child care settings. FIREFLY offices are located throughout Northwestern Ontario, providing a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with children and families, local colleagues and community partners. FIREFLY delivers many of our services in partnership with local First Nation organizations and is committed to building cultural safety into all that we do.

FIREFLY is seeking full-time Speech-Language Pathologists to provide services within the following teams:

  • Autism Diagnostic Hub and Autism Intervention
  • Northwestern Ontario FASD Diagnostic Hub
  • Complex Feeding and Swallowing Clinic
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication Clinic
  • School Support Services

Key Job Functions:

  • Engage in the screening, assessment, interpretation and rehabilitation of individuals with speech, language, feeding and swallowing impairments.
  • Participate in diagnostic clinics with other team professionals.
  • Provide information and support to family/caregivers to facilitate an understanding of client's strengths and caregiver directed goal attainment and assist clients with funding and purchasing information for aids and equipment.
  • Facilitate access to community resources necessary to promote the optimal level of functioning of the client and family/caregiver.
  • Work collaboratively with caregivers and other service providers and educators to meet identified needs and enhance delivery of care.
  • Maintain documentation as per CASLPO guidelines and FIREFLY policies and procedures.
  • Supervise communication assistants which includes determining appropriate clients to assign, developing clear therapy goals and plan, as well as direct and indirect supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Communication Disorders
  • Member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and facilitation skills
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe culture, First Nation communities and language is a definite asset
  • Fluency in French would be an asset
