CYSN Youth Outreach Worker

We are currently hiring for a Youth Outreach Worker

Program: Child and Family Services
Job Status: Casual
Pay Rate: Grid Level 11 ($27.54 – $31.61 hourly)
Hours of work: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule

Nature of PositionThe Youth Worker makes a significant contribution to children, youth and families by providing effective goal focused support and assistance. They help plan and carry out individually designed programs appropriate to the child/youth and the daily living environment. Service may be provided through one to one or group arrangements. The format of service will be determined by the needs identified and goals set by each child/youth and their family as part of Individual Service Planning. The Youth Worker uses and promotes a family centered approach and assists parents/caregivers in helpful strategies to understand and meet the needs of their child and their family. The Youth Worker is a dedicated and knowledgeable member of a comprehensive organization wide support team. The Youth Worker is familiar with and participates in ensuring that the strategic goals of the agency are met.Required Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with children and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement goal focused and person-centered support in family homes, and in community settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an effective professional relationship with the parents and or caregivers.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to use personal computer and appropriate software effectively to complete the positions work on time. This includes at a minimum file management, e-mail, internet use and word processing skills.
  • Proven ability to provide support and/or assist in emergencies.
  • Knowledgeable of group process and facilitation skills.
  • Good organization, time and general management skills.
  • Knowledgeable about the theory of child development, the principles and practices of early childhood education, early intervention and family centered care.
  • Ability to participate as a member of a team.
  • Ability to involve children and youth who have developmental disabilities in community activities regardless of medical or behavioral barriers.
  • Ability to function independently.
Please note: Shift schedules may change due to operational requirements.QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience:· A diploma in a related human/social service field, and (1) year recent related youth specific experience is required.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredRequirements for Ongoing Employment
  • Criminal Record Check (renewable every 5 years)
  • TB Test
  • A valid WCB-approved First Aid Certificate (OFA Level 1) (willing to train)
  • Access to a safe, well-maintained vehicle with appropriate insurance
Class 4 BC driver's license (willing to obtain within 6 months of employment)
