We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer/Coordinator to join our client's team in Charlottetown, PE. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs and policies to ensure a safe working environment. This role requires a proactive individual who can effectively manage safety procedures and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.

  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees, including orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, including training, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, and other external parties on safety-related matters.

  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure safety is integrated into all phases of project planning and execution.

  • Monitor and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols on job sites.

  • Stay current with industry best practices, trends, and advancements in safety technology and methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably within the construction or electrical contracting industry.

  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Safety Officer (CSO), or equivalent is highly desirable.

  • Thorough knowledge of local, provincial, and federal safety regulations and standards.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough investigations and risk assessments.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and influence others.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
