Overview
We are looking for an Estimator to join our clients team in Greater Sudbury, ON. Reporting to the Director of Industrial Construction, the ideal candidate should have 5+ years of experience in estimating jobs in the industrial field. The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
Description
The Estimator will be responsible for the full cycle of the estimate proposal, handling various projects with differing complexities and sizes.
Functions/Responsibilities
Prepare cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors, producing final tender submissions.
Conduct full quantity take-offs for all labor, materials, and equipment required for project completion as per contract specifications, ensuring pricing accuracy.
Review the scope of work before issuing to subcontractors and conduct gap/overlap analysis.
Provide direction on scope and requirements to suppliers and subcontractors based on RFP specifications.
Solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers to obtain the most competitive prices while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
Review subcontractor pricing, inclusions, exclusions, or qualifications for price evaluation and selection.
Identify and mitigate execution risks through comprehensive understanding of tender documentation and project plans.
Identify and mitigate pricing risks through proposal terms and conditions.
Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
Collaborate with Project Managers and the project delivery team in preparing bid pricing, proposal documents, schedules, and execution plans.
Conduct final bid submission reviews and oversee final tender document submission to clients.
Provide clarification to Client Contract Administrators during the post-tender/pre-award stage.
Occasionally travel to job sites for bid and project kick-off meetings.
Adhere to all company and client policies and procedures.
Obtain and submit quotations for changes to project scope.
Promote a culture of safety through leadership by example.
Qualifications
Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent technical training combined with 5+ years of experience in the construction industry, including estimating.
Experience in preparing estimation proposals and applicable documentation in industrial industries.
Proficient in reviewing construction drawings.
General construction knowledge, understanding the integration of other trades' work, specifications, methods, and procedures.
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental protection practices and procedures relevant to common construction processes.
Competency in key software and productivity tools such as MS Office (particularly Excel), Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Project, and/or Primavera P6.
Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
Ability to multi-task and maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently and self-monitor workload.
Professional, approachable, and customer-service oriented.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Valid driver's license (class G).
Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
