Established in 1963, Cyril J. Demeyere Limited is a Consulting Engineering firm that specializes in municipal engineering works for both private developers and local municipalities. CJDL has extensive experience in land development and in road reconstruction in an urban environment where the scope of work includes replacement of sanitary sewer, storm sewer and watermain.
The scope of this role includes: The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution and completion CJDL Consulting Engineers projects, commonly work with a team of engineers, EITs, Technologists and other professionals to ensure that all aspects of a project are completed on time and within budget.
The Project Manager must be able to effectively manage junior staff while also paying close attention to detail. They will coordinate with multiple contractors, consultants and vendors at once, all while ensuring that their own team is working efficiently and effectively.
Projects will include infrastructure renewal, new subdivision servicing, site/lot development/grading plans, sewer and watermain design and storm water management. Projects under the Drainage Act may also be included in the scope of work.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
- Interpret, review and approve survey and civil design work
- Liaise with clients and a variety of professionals including architects and subcontractors
- Ensure projects comply with legal requirements, especially health and safety
- Assess the sustainability and environmental impact of projects
- Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications
- Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards
- Direct or participate in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction
- Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility
- Review plans for design flaws and making recommendations for improvement
- Monitor the work of engineers and technologists to ensure that they are adhering to industry standards and best practices
- Provide technical support to contractors during the construction phase of a project
- Develop project timelines, including phases of implementation, completion dates, and milestones along the way
- Assist in the development of bids for projects that may be put out to bid by clients
- Ensure that all applicable laws and regulations are followed during construction
Qualifications:
- University Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Registered as an EIT (with P.Eng obtained in the next year) or a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
- A Candidate with a CET or similar designation working at a high level for several years (10+) would also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in municipal and/or land development engineering
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and supervise employees and contractors
- Experience guiding and developing junior employees
- Ability to manage projects from concept to completion
- Relevant experience working with municipalities, developers and contractors is preferred
- Ability to interpret, read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications
- A working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Good interpersonal skills - ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships
- Driver's License Class G required in good standing
