Position Overview:
Banbury Crossroads School seeks a passionate and innovative Secondary Science Teacher for grades 7–12, with a focus on Biology and Chemistry. This role involves designing and implementing a dynamic science curriculum in a self-directed learning environment that is both engaging and thought-provoking. The ideal candidate will bring creativity and enthusiasm to the classroom, inspiring students to explore and understand the complex world around them.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, Develop, and Execute Lessons: Design and deliver lessons aligned with the Alberta Programs of Study, employing varied teaching methods to support diverse learning styles.
- Foster a Balanced Classroom Environment: Cultivate an atmosphere that promotes curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for scientific discovery.
- Guide Scientific Inquiry Projects: Lead students in self-directed projects that deepen their understanding of scientific methods and concepts. Encourage students to ask questions, seek answers, and present findings.
- Enhance Interdisciplinary Learning: Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to create integrated learning experiences that connect science with other areas of study.
- Assess Student Progress: Evaluate student understanding through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to foster growth.
- Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Regularly update parents and guardians on student progress, celebrating achievements and identifying growth areas.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on advancements in science education and self-directed learning methodologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education; a Master's degree is highly preferred.
- Additional qualifications in Science or a related discipline are preferred.
- International Baccalaureate experience (Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme) is an asset but not required.
- Valid teaching certification for Alberta.
- Proven experience teaching science to secondary students, with a strong understanding of pedagogical theories and practices in self-directed learning environments.
- Experience teaching in a special education learning environment an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong commitment to professional growth and collaboration within a dynamic educational team.
