Position Overview:

Velocity Truck Centre Canada, formally known as P&R Truck Centre, is looking for a 3rd/4th year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanics in Langford. In this position you will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of commercial trucks and heavy-duty equipment. You will work under the supervision of experienced mechanics and contribute to ensuring the fleet is maintained to the highest standards of safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and assist in repairing engines, transmissions, and differentials
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and inspecting belts, hoses, brakes, and tires
  • Assist in the removal and replacement of defective parts, ensuring all replaced components are tested and functioning properly
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment efficiently and safely, maintaining and organizing tools and equipment
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, participating in safety meetings and training sessions to ensure a safe working environment
  • Accurately complete work orders and maintenance logs, reporting any issues or concerns to the supervising mechanic
  • Interact with customers professionally and courteously, explaining repairs and maintenance tasks when necessary

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a 3rd or 4th year apprentice in a heavy duty mechanic program
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a keen interest in commercial truck repair
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment and tools
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good physical condition with the ability to lift heavy parts and equipment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver's license; a Class 3 or Class 1 license is a plus
