Hybrid Work Model

At Assent, we proudly embrace a remote-first work model, valuing the flexibility and autonomy it provides our team. We also acknowledge the intangible benefits of occasional in-person workdays. For team members situated within 50 kms/31 miles of our five global offices in Ottawa, Eldoret, Penang, Columbus, and Amsterdam, you can expect to come into the office at least one day a week. Similarly, those near our co-working spaces in Nairobi and Toronto are encouraged to work onsite once a month.

Job Description

At Assent, Continuous Discovery is the heart of our teams and how we work. Technical Leads, Product Managers, and Product Designers (together called a product trio) collaborate to identify solutions to opportunities. As part of the trio, Technical Leads assess the feasibility of a solution. They provide options back to their peers to drive product and business outcomes. As part of their team they evangelize solutions and guide the team to delivery. They are player-coaches within the team combining development with collaboration and mentoring. Key Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Own the technical quality of the solutions delivered by your team: from discovery to delivery to adoption.

  • Collaborate with colleagues from product management, user experience, quality assurance to understand the problems of our customer;

  • Design and develop high quality, scalable solutions, in conjunction with the architects and other technical leads, that are optimized for our business;

  • Contribute to improving the overall quality of our solution by participating in design and code reviews from their own team and others;

  • Mentor other team members helping them to improve their technical skills and overcome day-to-day problems;

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and methods and drive their adoption where they can accelerate achieving the team's objectives;

  • Be familiar with corporate security policies and follow the guidance set out by processes and procedures of Assent

Qualifications

We strongly value your talent, energy and passion. It will also be valuable to Assent if you have the following qualifications,

  • 7 years of experience in the software development field;

  • You have proven experience with AWS services (or other cloud solutions)

  • You are an expert in our software stack (C#/.NET, MS SQL Server, Angular).

  • You are an expert in designing large-scale distributed systems. You can tell what patterns or techniques might apply to a situation, and can tell why they may be useful (or why not!).

  • You understand how to build, deploy, and observe software at scale.

  • You are an influencer who can work well with others and focuses on the merits of ideas.

  • You are a strong team player whose vision of the team extends beyond their reporting structure.

  • You are a critical thinker who can leverage powerful questions to help others see what they're not looking for.

  • You are a constant learner and every day brings a new opportunity for you and your team to discover something new.

  • You are open to feedback, coachable and always striving to improve yourself.
