The salary for the position of Jr. Title Searcher starts at $50,000 with potential to increase commensurate with experience.
Job DescriptionThe Jr. Title Searcher role requires the ability to work independently, good organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. This position is responsible for complete Title Searches and closings, knowledge of real estate transactions and related aspects of title searching is required.
Perform requested searches including:
- determine the type of search required (residential, commercial, full, sub, PPSA, etc.);
- compile information in a standard format performing appropriate searches;
- prepare abstracts relating to property noting discrepancies, errors or omissions;
- compile chain of title for each search;
- obtain assessment roll number;
- plot a sketch of the property;
- provide Solicitor with required documentation within established timeline
Attend to the closing of real estate transactions including:
- attend the Registry Office to meet representatives from other law firms to exchange documentation as per closing memo;
- advise office of any errors and omissions and receive further instructions;
- review documents for accuracy and completeness;
- attend at registration desk, review documents and register
Complete base work for billing in a timely fashion including fee and all disbursements;
- search personal properties security registration records at Registry Office and report results;
- file documents at court offices or search court records as required;
- file appropriate documentation to register Articles of Incorporation and obtain registration documentation
Provide overflow Legal Assistant support as required
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Keep abreast of any changes in specialty area and quickly adapt procedures to meet requirements;
- Foster an environment where other staff feel comfortable in asking for assistance and advice;
- Act as a representative of Sullivan Mahoney LLP with external agencies and clients with confidence, as required;
- Provide coverage title searching and legal assisting duties during staff absences;
- Perform other duties as may be assigned and or required from time to time.
- Successful completion of post-secondary Law Clerk or related program is required;
- 1-3 years' experience in real estate or title searching in a legal environment;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and legal software including Teraview and PC Law;
- Must be able to work with a degree of independence;
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize high volume of work;
- Listens well and has an aptitude for rapid comprehension;
- Exceptional attitude and work ethic;
- Willingness to assist others voluntarily or as requested in a team environment;
- Resourceful, highly motivated and able to adapt and learn quickly in applying new technical and professional skills;
- Willingness and ability to support and enhance the firm's presence and goals.
