Position Purpose

Responsible for the instruction of freestyle ski and/or snowboard lessons to customers of all ages and abilities. For full details, please see attached job description.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Able to demonstrate comfortable and safe riding skills on intermediate terrain, as well as basic terrain park features;
  • Knowledge of The Alpine Responsibility Code;
  • Level 1 Certified Instructor (CSIA or CASI) or willingness to attain certification prior to season start;
  • Provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (PVSC), deemed as satisfactory by the Town;
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C is considered an asset;
  • Park Instructor 1 considered an asset, or willingness to attain certification prior to season start;
  • Snowpark Certification considered an asset, or willingness to attain certification prior to season start.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Special Interest Instructor – Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Position #:SS20

Department: Community Services Division: Recreation

Reports To: Recreation Services Supervisor Direction Exercised: None

Position Summary

Responsible for the instruction of freestyle ski and/or snowboard lessons to customers of all ages and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements and instructs safe freestyle ski and/or snowboard lessons;
  • Assesses all participants and completes the appropriate report card at the end of each session;
  • Monitors participants and adapts lessons as necessary;
  • Performs lesson preparations (i.e. as on-hill set up and tear down, structured lesson plans, etc.);
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service and provides this service on the front-line of operation.
  • Interacts with participants, staff, spectators and community members;
  • Follows up with parent/guardian at the end of each lesson regarding the students' progression;
  • Performs administrative tasks to support the program as assigned by the Recreation Programmer;
  • Ensures all participants are wearing the industry standard equipment required for their lesson (helmet, boots, bindings, skis and board)
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays (Christmas Break, Family Day weekend and March Break).

Skill/Knowledge Requirements

  • Able to demonstrate comfortable and safe riding skills on intermediate terrain, as well as basic terrain park features.
  • Knowledge of The Alpine Responsibility Code
  • Ability to work in and withstand severe cold and adverse weather conditions;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (PVSC), deemed as satisfactory by the Town;
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C is considered an asset;

Freestyle Snowboard Instructor

  • CASI Level 1 required
  • Park Instructor 1 considered an asset, or willingness to attain certification prior to season start.

Freestyle Ski Instructor

  • CSIA Level 1 required
  • Snowpark Certification considered an asset, or willingness to attain certification prior to season start.
