MISSION

The Director of Finance is a key member of the leadership team that will empower and lead the finance and IT team of the organization. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day finance and administrative operations, including the preparation, administration and monitoring of operating and capital budgets, monthly accounting, budgeting and reporting.

The Pod Group is partnering with this organization to place a compassionate and hands-on leader to fulfill the role of the Director of Finance.

PRIORITIES

Leadership and Accounting

  • Provides leadership to the Finance and IT team.
  • Coordinate all activities within the Finance Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, payroll, special projects accounting, financial planning, budgeting and reporting.
  • Ensure that all month-end financial accounting duties and all resulting reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Lead the finance committee of the board of directors and participate in the monthly and annual room and board reconciliation and present reports, including Actual to Budget analysis, annual budget process and Cash Flow preparation.
  • Manage the investment portfolio of the organization.
  • Review and approve payroll, Group Benefits, Group RRSP and T4's.

Capital Projects and Funding

  • Lead and execute the Request for Proposal process for capital projects.
  • Provide support in the development of organizational proposals by determining financial impact of proposal and providing required financial information.
  • Ensure individual funders reporting requirements are completed on a timely basis.
  • Monitor accounts payable to ensure that purchases and expenditures are within budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

TALENTS & EXPERTISE

  • Minimum five (5) years experience working in a not-for-profit, government-funded organization in a finance management or executive leadership role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of government and funder agency structures, procedures and reporting.
  • Expert knowledge of financial planning, financial management and accounting/ financial reporting systems and procedures to manage the agency's fiscal and business affairs.
  • Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills to participate in the development of strategic and operational plans and policy recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex ideas to create clarity with diverse audiences with varying levels of issue expertise and understanding.
  • Experience to represent the agency with external contacts and to provide advisory services to the CEO, Board of Directors and committees of the Board.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Highly developed technical and analytical skills with ability to use expert level judgment for strategic thinking and problem solving.
