NOTE: The start date for this position is May 2025 for 4 months.

Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, the communications student will be part of a team dedicated to high quality and innovative communications practices. The person in this position will be involved in planning and implementing internal and external communications techniques to promote AltaLink's reputation with all of our audiences. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to AltaLink's community investment portfolio and media relations strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the dissemination of daily news clippings including monitoring and analyzing the daily industry news
  • Researching, writing and managing content for both AltaLink's intranet and external website
  • Researching, writing and editing content for the internal newsletter
  • Supporting community relations efforts, including building recognition for our partnerships with the non-profit sector
  • Supporting the management of several special events by participating in planning and execution
  • Assisting with the development and execution of AltaLink's social media strategy, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Supporting media relations strategies as required, including updating and maintaining media lists
  • Providing support to the communications department as required

Requirements

  • University student who is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Communications program with a focus on Public Relations;
  • Equivalent education and experience will be considered;
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including solid creative writing and editing skills and the ability to translate highly technical topics into easily understood language;
  • Creative thinking skills, including knowledge of trends, best practices and upcoming technology and media;
  • Knowledge of communication processes with the ability to develop a communication strategy and tactics;
  • Work effectively in a team setting, including valuing the ideas of others;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and carry projects through to completion within a changing environment, both independently and as a member of a team;
  • Extremely detail oriented;
  • Familiarity with content management systems, social media analytics tools, Adobe Creative Suite, SharePoint, M365 (including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and other technologies;
  • Sound judgment in dealing with sensitive and/or highly confidential information;
  • Proven track record of good attendance
