Job Description:

Note: The start date for this position is May 2025. The length of the term is 16 months until August 2026.

Reporting to the Manager, Security Operations, the Co-Op- Student Corporate Security will have the primary responsibility to respond to critical security related incidents and assist with the security-related aspects of our internal security operations. Other accountabilities will include participation in Capital IT projects, Risk Assessments, vulnerability management, security monitoring and the development and maintenance of process and procedure documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a core team member on multiple programs within Corporate Security.
  • Respond to critical computer security incidents and conduct advanced computer and network forensic investigation functions relating to various forms of electronic fraud, identity theft, computer intrusion, theft of information, denial of service, multi-national organized electronic criminal groups, as well as financial fraud investigations.
  • Support technical teams and third-party vendors to resolve incidents as quickly and effectively as possible.
  • Generate vulnerability reports and provide analysis and recommendations.
  • Develop detailed remediation reports and recommendations for compliance and security improvements across AltaLink corporate networks based on changing threats.
  • Communicate status of response, resolution and final root cause analysis to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Contribute to security assessments of corporate, operations and energy management systems, services, and programs.
  • Participate in and provide feedback to the technical review board as part of AltaLink change control process.
  • Conduct threat intelligence analysis, management, and distribution utilizing a variety of intelligence sources.
  • Conduct Risk Assessment for new 3rd party vendors, services and solutions
  • Participates in internal and external audits and assessments which involve AltaLink Security Operations teams.
  • Develops and manages effective working relationships with other departments, groups and personnel with whom work must be coordinated or interfaced.
  • Perform basic system administration duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A current student in the Bachelor of Computer Science program or equivalent.
  • A student who has completed two or more years of study and is currently enrolled in a Co-op program at a recognized University.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging information security technologies and development methodologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection systems, virtual private networking, virus protection technologies, LAN/WAN design, and/or general internetworking technologies) as well as broad IP Network and security engineering concepts.
  • Ability to research and analyze security threats and exploitation techniques.
  • Familiarity with UNIX, Linux, Microsoft operating systems, security tools, and related security software.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment;
  • Understanding of emergency response and incident management processes.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Proven track record of good attendance and job performance.
