ABOUT CHILD DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTEChild Development Institute (CDI) is a leading children's mental health agency in the City of Toronto offering a range of services to approximately 3,000 children ages 0‐12, youth ages 13-18 and their families each year. Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of children and to strengthen the families and communities in which they live. We provide four streams of service to families in need: early intervention, family violence, healthy child development and specialized mental health services for children and youth with learning disabilities.POSITION SUMMARYThe Child Development Institute is seeking a dynamic candidate to work under the direction of the SNAP Boys Leadership Services Coordinator. The SNAP Boys Youth Clubs Facilitator is responsible for facilitating one of the two weekly SNAP Boys Youth Clubs which serve a diverse group, many of whom are racialized youth. This group component, which corresponds with the school year schedule, utilizes the SNAP Framework to address various challenges youth experience at home, school, or in the community. The focus is on providing a positive, therapeutic environment to explore youth related issues, practice SNAP skills and social skills, develop prosocial future oriented plans, attain life skills, and have access to caring adults with whom they can connect and mentor.
This is a non-bargaining casual contract position requires to work flexible evening hours. Hours are not guaranteed.
What the role is all about...
  1. Accepting and working within the Institute's stated vision, mission, values and goals, the SNAP Boys Youth Clubs Facilitator reports directly to the SNAP Boys Youth Leadership Services Coordinator.
  2. Assists in developing and implementing weekly Youth Leadership Clubs for SNAP Boys Youth Leadership Services participants 11-18 years of age, supporting youth to develop confidence, leadership and social skills.
  3. Lead Facilitator in one of the two weekly SNAP Boys Youth Clubs from 4:00pm to 7:30pm.
  4. Regularly communicates with families and contacts youth's parents/caregivers on a weekly basis to provide progress updates.
  5. Facilitates assignment, coaches and supports youth in leadership roles at CDI and works to enhance healthy personal development and employment/volunteer skills of youth in those positions.
  6. Accompanies youth on field trips and outings in the community.
  7. Works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, parents, and participants to ensure youth have a safe and fun educational experience.
  8. Supervises and facilitates activities in a manner that ensures safety and inclusion of all participants.
  9. Problem solves issues pertaining to positive growth and development (i.e. personal interactions and behaviour, interpersonal conflicts, application of good judgement and conflict resolution skills, etc.).
  10. Completes documentation in a timely manner (i.e. program plans, program reports and evaluations, incident and serious occurrence reports, etc.).
  11. Maintains positive professional relationships with youth, campers, parents, staff, community members and other Child Development Institute patrons and visitors.
  12. Adheres to the Child Development Institute's Policies and Procedures and maintains a safe and healthy working environment.
  13. Performs other assigned duties in the interests of the organization.
What we hope you will bring…
  • A University or College Diploma, preferably in Child and Youth Work, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in child and youth work.

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, probe, analyze and problem solve issues.
  • Be a dedicated and flexible team player able to interact with team members and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Personal connection to and experience with diverse backgrounds and racialized groups is an asset
Workplace Environment
  • Governed by concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be elevated at times.
  • Fast paced and work environment that requires flexibility and adaptation.
  • Frequent handling of queries and calls from youth, colleagues, and managers.
Other Requirements
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C)

COMPENSATION: $25.75 per hour
