We are looking for a motivated ESL Instructor to join our Engage-Hospital Employees Union (HEU) Language Training project team!

POSITION FUNCTION:

• Delivery and facilitation of an online learning ESL class to HEU members. The class is fully online with 5 hrs/wk asynchronous learning on Moodle LMS and 3 hr/wk of synchronous workshops via Zoom. The Instructor will also be expected to be available for short 1-on-1 sessions with clients throughout the week.
• Meet the specific needs of HEU members by conducting needs assessment and responding to those needs
• Create a warm, inclusive, and safe online learning environment
• Assess and provide feedback to students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
• Provide feedback to the Manager and developers about the program curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent pedagogical knowledge and experience in online instruction using Moodle and Zoom
• Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.

• At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods. Community-based, settlement, and Literacy ESL experience an asset.
• Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).
• CLB Bootcamp certified
• Experience working with multi-barriered clients, newcomers to Canada, and
• Experience working in a non-profit is an asset

COMPENSATION: $31.26 - $34.56 per hour

HOURS:

17.5 hours per week. May require availability to work evenings.

This is a fixed-term contract from January 2, 2025, to June 20, 2025, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate may be permitted to work in a hybrid work model (a combination of in-office and remote work). Must be able to commute to 206 - 2555 Commercial Drive, Vancouver office location.
