Glen Arbour golf course is seeking an experienced and dedicated Golf Course Superintendent to lead the management and maintenance of our exceptional facility.
The Glen Arbour Golf Course is a private golf course located in Hammonds Plains, NS. just west of Halifax and features a classic eighteen-hole championship course, a nine-hole par three as well as a practice facility. Position Summary/ Purpose:
The Golf Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the care and maintenance of the golf course and related facilities, ensuring optimal playing conditions and aesthetic appeal. This includes managing the turf, landscape, and surrounding grounds, as well as leading the maintenance team, budgeting and coordinating with other departments. Over time you must develop an understanding of the Course's Core values as well as a strong understanding of the EOS philosophy and how it applies to the branding of the course.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all agronomic practices, including mowing, fertilizing, irrigation, aeration, pest control and disease management to maintain healthy turf.
- Ensure the course is maintained to the highest standards for playability, safety, and aesthetics.
- Manage a team of turf and garden staff, providing leadership, training and support fostering a safe work environment and promoting best practices among staff.
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget, including purchasing supplies, equipment, and managing labour costs.
- Oversee the proper care and maintenance of all golf course equipment, including mower, irrigation system and power golf cart fleet including oil changes., etc.
- Responsible for winter maintenance of golf course.
- Implement innovative practices to enhance course conditions and sustainability.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or related field preferred
- A minimum of five years of golf course maintenance experience, including supervisory experience.
- Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) designation is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience of complete golf course operations
- Knowledge of Toro Lynx is considered and asset.
- Extensive knowledge of agronomy, turf management practices, irrigation systems, and pest/disease control.
- Demonstrate a proficiency in Office 365 and word processing
- A strong working knowledge of irrigation operation and water management
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with budgeting, staffing, and project management.
- Ability to work independently, flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, based on weather and course needs.
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Operational Health and Safety (OHS) practices
- First Aid and (CPR) certification
- Valid Nova Scotia Pesticide Applicator License, or ability to obtain within the first 3 months.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license
